Anyone trying to relitigate Streeter v. DJU needs to revisit this opening sequence. Screen left. DJ passes to a wide open receiver in stride and with appropriate velocity. In the dirt. Nowhere near his wide open man. That would have been a first down with YAC. 2nd down, screen right. Open receiver. But DJU hesitates and throws a lazy pass. Receiver is open but DJU’s poor execution allows the DB to close and smother the receiver immediately. 3rd and 8, Streeter actually gives DJU the chance to pick up the first down. Receiver runs a nice inside out route. And is open. DJ misses him wide left. Any argument that the play calling was too conservative for him to be successful is not grounded in reality. Three straight open receivers - so the plays calls worked. Only one a remotely challenging pass. The play call worked x3. The receivers executed x3. DJ failed every time.
