If I Was THE Bama AD

My #1 Candidate to replace Saban would be Dabo. He has beaten Saban for a natty. He has won 2 natties. He has dominated his conference. He is a proven coach, not some Johnny-Come-Lately, flash in the pan. Plus, he is an Alabama Alum. who played and coached at Alabama. He has recruited against Saban and knows how to recruit the South East.
There is no way Dabo is not at the top of the list to replace Saban.
Alabama would be dumb not to offer him the job. And if they do, I pray that Dabo says, thank you but no.

Goes scorched earth on cfb. The last decade will play second fiddle to the next. The best is yet to come.

No bait. Just pointing out that Dabo is THE best coach Bama can get and has the credentials they should want. Every other person mentioned can't hold a candle to Dabo. Clemson fans will be devastated if Dabo leaves.

I firmly believe that too. Posted so under Hoods article. I sincerely believe the last thing they want to do is go after Dabo and be rejected. That would not be a good look. Not a doubt in my mind that Dabo is who they really want... but a rejection could be more damaging if they publicly name him as a person of interest and it not go through. That's why I personally think they're waiting on Dabo to make up his mind.

Alabama will never hire Dabo. Alabama students are already having rallies chanting "Anybody but Dabo". Of course students don't make hiring decisions but certainly not an endorsement for Dabo. Since Saban retired I believe Dabo is now the highest paid coach in college football. He has it made at Clemson with his long term contract and Clemson will never fire him regardless of his won/loss record.

The only thing wrong with all that is Dabo plainly told Finebaum why he would...

never return to Alabama. Dabo's response to PF query is 15 minutes long and describes things most Clemson fans never knew, things hard to believe.
Please take time to hear Dabo's speech junk yard tiger®

Nothing said in that interview tells me he would never go to Alabama.

If I Was THE Bama AD I would be looking to move out of the state of Alabama, but if I decided to stay, I would hire Eli drink wits.
I don’t think Dabo sees Bama as a culture fit for him. Bama ain’t gonna let him build a program w high graduation rates. Not gonna be anything like paw journey. No, maybe I’m naïve, maybe Dabo at doesn’t care about that stuff, but I doubt it. We will soon see.

Dabo has all the money he ever needs especially by the time he finishes his contract at Clemson. Just have a winning record every year, go to some bowl and put it on cruise control.

You either like Dabo's style or you don't and they don't. They want to win PEROID. If Dabo presented the performance there he has here the last three years they'd fire his butt. That's why his name is three or four down the list.

I think it is hard to say he is the top candidate - you make good points

However, there is a psychological component that I think is at play here.
Like you said, CDS took 2 national championship AWAY from Alabama and Saban. That probably still has some STING to it, and even the people in charge may have difficulty coming to grips with this fact and pay an very high price to get this same person as the head coach.
I’m still feeling quite comfortable that CDS is NOT going anywhere.

Bama doesn't have to offer him anything. All they have to do is ask Jimmy. It seems Jimmy represents all the candidates, and he was in the AD's office yesterday. I don't think Dabo would use this to get a raise. I think he's probably maxed out, especially with the assistant salary pool. My guess is he knows that, so he's not going to push it. Jimmy would tell Byrne who to target. Saban is involved as well, and Jimmy is his agent too.
IF it were going to be Dabo, nobody would know until it's ready to be announced. That much I'm certain of. Dabo handles his business the way it should be handled. I really love the way he handled the firing of Streeter and hiring of Riley. But if Dabo told his team he wasn't leaving, I'll believe that. I just don't know who that guy is that tweeted it.
