If he wants to express his religion, he should become a preacher. He's a football coach at a public university.

When did I say I want him to quit? I love having Dabo as our coach, but his religious zeal is pretty over the top.

I think his religious zeal is part of why so many recruits mom's love him.
But let's change that.

If you don't believe in God I challenge you to read the books "Case for Christ" and "Case for Faith" by Lee Strobel....
He was an atheist that set out to prove his wife and family who were Christians wrong but wound up trusting in Christ himself.

He IS a preacher and his Clemson gospel is looking pretty strong right now.
Obviously recruits and recruit's families are liking what Dabo is preaching.
He's sincere about it and his sincerity is resonating with other believers who also happen to be great football players.
Preach on Dabo!!!

You cannot separate your life as a Christian and your secular life. When you die, you will be judged by your actions here on earth. I don't think that God will say " you were a good dude in church, but you did not affirm your faith in your regular life. You are good..."

Your missing the bigger picture. Someone who loves the Lord and believes He sent His Son to die for us should ALWAYS use the opportunity to tell others. And give thanks. To keep it to yourself means you don't care about others. I respect him for never forgetting the "big picture". Great thing is we can discuss his victory speach. Could be a lot worse. GO Tigers!!!!!

on the subject, but not OK for him?? dbl standard there, huh?
And don't give me that excuse that you are not a head fb coach on national TV. You just expressed your opinion to about 3000 people on TigerNet.
He is who he is and you or no one will change that. I honestly think he would quit if Clemson execs told him to stop. He is that much of a believer.
You can't have it both ways and you are the only one that can express your opinion. That is what is wrong with the world today....only certain people are allowed to express what they believe,,,,and it ain't the good guys

Amazes me how some people think an individual shouldn't have the right to thank God but those people think they have the right to tell somebody to not talk about God. Works both ways. This is America, biblical values and faith in God laid the foundation for this beautiful country.

The pledge is not a binding document that governs our country. "Under God" wasn't even in the original pledge, it was added in the 1950s due to the Red Scare.

Eh? Go ahead and preach all you want, as long as you aren't a spokesperson for a government institution. Dabo is the face of a football program at a public university. If he were the coach at Baylor or TCU I wouldn't care what he said because those are Christian schools.

I'm just curious why it offends you. Can you not sleep at night knowing our head coach mentioned God? Are you grief stricken? Can you not go about your daily activities after this devastating mentioning of God?
A friend of mine is an atheist and is embarrassed to say she is because of the reactions and comments like this. She literally couldn't care less because it affects her zero.

Where does it say he is a spokesperson for Clemson? You and your FFR pukes need to move to another country without Chrisianity and see how it works for them.

Dabo doesn't mention God in most of his postgame speeches
Dec 31, 2015, 10:15 PM
|
|
I'm probably one of a very small minority of people on here that is trying to give you the benefit of the doubt about this post. But it's not like he spends a lot of time in his postgame interviews discussing God/Jesus. In fact, he very rarely mentions anything at all about anything religious in any of his postgame exchanges.
Regardless of my own personal religious beliefs, I actually agree with you that postgame interviews and other similar situations are not an appropriate time for him to vigorously promote his religious beliefs. However, I think there is a very distinct contrast between a coach or player giving thanks to God following a game than for them to turn the platform into a promotion of their religion. What amounts to basically only one sentence giving thanks to God is an extremely small portion of what Dabo said in his postgame interview.
If Dabo wants to discuss his personal religious views with recruits and their families, he has every right to. Considering that these kids are about to make one of the most important decisions of their lives, and they're likely going to spend the next four years of their lives forming an extremely close relationship with Coach Swinney, many families are eager to engage in this type of discussion. If a recruit is coming from a family background that is closely tied to Christian beliefs, the player and his family will most likely be pleased to know that their future football coach shares similar beliefs.
If the recruit comes from a non-religious background then this wouldn't be a topic that Dabo would focus on. I'm sure he would answer any questions related to his beliefs, and it wouldn't be surprising if he mentioned it to every family, but unless the recruit wanted it to be a primary focus, it's not something that would be heavily promoted.
Coach Swinney has every right to belief in whatever he wants, and if he mentions something about his beliefs in passing or makes one or two statements concerning Christianity, he is completely within his rights. It's true that Clemson is a public university, and the Constitution requires a separation of church and state. However, Clemson University nor the athletic department or the football program endorse Christianity as their official religion.
The coaching staff is entitled to believe whatever they like, and they are free to mention their personal beliefs so long as they aren't coercing any players into those same beliefs, endorsing Christianity as the official religion of the football program, or discriminating against any of the players because they have different religious beliefs.
There's always a chance that something as simple as giving thanks to God following a game can potentially offend or alienate a small number of viewers. By the same token though, there's also the possibility of having a contingent of viewers (probably much larger) that agree and support what he is saying.
I'm curious how the group of viewers that are agitated in any way by what he said would feel if his comments were slightly different and instead gave thanks to his creator instead of God. If he only thanked his creator, wouldn't that be generic enough to encompass basically everyone except for atheists? The intent of his statement would still be exactly the same, but if he used a more inclusive synonym instead of the word God I bet people would react differently.
As long as Dabo keeps his religious talk to something as simple as a single statement giving thanks, he isn't crossing any lines as far as I'm concerned. I actually think it's a bit trivial to worry about a single statement.

Well, the next time you are the head coach at Clemson you can keep it to yourself. Dabo obviously feels he owes his personal success to God. If you don't like it, of well... There are a lot of things I don't like that aren't my call.

goes totally against what being a Christian is all about. I never understood why anyone has a problem with some one glorifying God. If someone is a true Atheist what difference does it make if someone believes something you chose not to. Now I could understand if he was berating you for your unbelief.

He has as much right to speak freely as do you.

Would you give up your right to speak your mind? Do you expect him to change?

Jesus told us to shout it, so we'll listen to him and not you. Freedom of speech, deal with it. Even if it wasn't freedom, still deal with it

Why should he? Dabo serves his Lord and Savior. Relationship with Christ is not something you turn on and off when convenient.

I think Dabo has earned the right to say whatever he feels when the camera is ok him.
And I think he has earned that trust from everyone to be the representative of Clemson University.
You know you're an undefeated team and you've made it when people start finding stuff like this to say.

Absolutely not! Dabo and every Christ believer knows the Lord is indeed responsible for all things! May Clemson be glad.

If you disagree, find another coach and team to pull for. Athuests and their acceptance and open-mindedness of all things non-christian, fav type of hypicrite.
