I wasn't unhappy with the Streeter "hire" to OC . . .

based just on that move. But when he play calling seemed horrible, I had a problem, no doubt. But alas, it seems it might have been more DJs problem than Streeter's, which lends more to the "WHY" was DJ kept so long as the starter?? I'm hoping the play calling continues to look good with Cade!!

Dabo trained Jeff and Tony so I trusted the hire of Brandon because Several playoffs and two NCs. Any reasonable person would have seen it that way.
Dabo replaced KB who was, imo, a better QB than DJ. I find no historical support for Dabo keeping DJ.
It's over.

Every person in a position like Dabo, corporate head or leadership role has a succession plan for themselves and key members of their staff. Pretty sure Dabo has one also. He knew Venables and Elliott were leaving. Just guessing because I don’t know Dabo personally but I know how large corporations work. He had a list of people both internal and external. The external candidates may have been unavailable, not interested, or maybe just didn’t evaluate as good from an organizational fit as the internal. The folks who suggest that outside candidates weren’t considered I believe are wrong. That’s just not how it works from my experience.

Totally agree. Just because he didn’t interview any external candidates doesn’t mean that he didn’t look at who was available before making that decision.

If it's wrong about Dabo not looking for outside hires when Tony and BV left, well Dabo was the very first to admit that he didn't look outside the program for an OC or DC!!!

I agree with you. Streeter had a trial run as OC with Trevor Lawrence as QB and the result was terrible. Worst production from Trevor that season.

So you blame that loss on playcalling despite the fact that venables defense gave up up 42?

Never blamed the loss on anyone. Simply implied that Streeter had a chance to prove his worth and failed and was insightful to what we saw this year.

Ok I will phrase it differently. You are saying a 1 game audition with a week to prepare as play caller against arguably the best CFB team in history should be counted as a failure? As I recall 13 other OC’s some of whom were the best in the business also failed.

You are so right. Even Vanderbilt scored more points on the best team in history than we did.

Just one of any of the best in college FB would not have fail if they would have come in and took over our offense this past season. 1st of all, any of the best/better OC's wouldn't have come without being in charge of what he was teaching, and calling the plays on Saturday, and DJ probably wouldn't have made it past the Wake Forest game, and surely not past the Cuse game. That would have given him enough time to have had Cade ready, and that's who would've been our starting QB the very next game after Cuse for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We might get a better idea during the Orange Bowl,

as Cade's talent will demand a wide open offense.
Hopefully, Streeter will prove his saavy, utilizing a wide variety of calls to keep the Vols' defense staggering.

10AC starting QB Hendon Hooker went down in the coot game with a torn ACL, but their backup Joe Milton beat Hendon Hooker out for the starting job last year until Milton was injured, and that's when Hooker became QB #1 and took over the starting job and kept it, so for the guys saying we will be playing our backup against 10AC's backup, well I don't think that Milton is going to be a scrub backup for 10AC in the bowl game. For sure Streeter better have the play calling down in the bowl game bc 10AC is going to score, and probably score enough to win the game if Streeter shows to be the same OC with Cade as he was with DJ!!!

I agree with you that Milton is not a scrub backup but neither is Cade. I also think playcalling looks so much better when the QB makes the correct read in an RPO offense. In the UNC game CK did that. TN will try to show different defensive looks at CK in order to confuse him. We will see if he can make the right calls. If so the play calling will look great, if not all will say the calls suck fire streeter.

The Orange Bowl will give us a better indication about Streeter.
I still wouldn't mind seeing Jeff Scott brought back into the fold in some capacity.

I don't think it matters. We are stuck with Streeter because Dabo chose him and won't admit there are better options. Love Dabo but that is one hard headed guy.
