defensive front 7

|

DT: scott pagano christian wilkins dexter lawrence carlos watkins nyles pinckney albert huggins sterling johnson gage cervenka
DE: richard yeargin austin bryant xavier kelly clelin ferrell lasamuel davis chris register
LB: dorian odaniel korrin wiggins (db-but listed here because hes a wrecking ball) jalen williams tre lamar shaq smith chad smith kendall joseph
look at all of those names. now try to imagine a world where we have a significant defensive drop off. if you can imagine that world, please tell me how you did it because that list of names combined with the tutelage of brooks, hobby, and venables is just flat out scary.
that might be the best defensive front 7 lineup i've ever heard of at clemson. whats really awesome is that almost all of them are true freshman, redshirt freshman, or sophomores.
SPOT THE DANG BALL!!!!!!!!!
go tigers!

We still got Bouleware on the LB list, he'll be the leader of the D next year.

with confidence as he should. Still humble as kids approached him. He is a Clemson Man whom needs no introduction.

I'm sure many of the are versatile enough to play in more than one spot. Whether he's inside or on the end makes no real difference to me. The list is just to represent the depth and quality of players we have. Dabo and co have done a wonderful job across the board but, specifically, the front 7 is fearfully and wonderfully made.

I'm with you. I think we will actually improve in all aspects. The talent pool is just too deep, depth has improved & our schedule is favorable. Top 10 possibly 5 overall all season long.

no drop off in the back 4 of our D with the loss of an Alexander. I do feel the same way as everyone so far as our D-front goes. We'll have the talent to be great, but this is a group that will definitely get better every week this season IMO. I wish you could teach experience. However, knowing the undeniable talent we have, and add in our D staff and how well they develop players, I more than like our chances. Oh yeah, and having DW4 at QB never hurts.
FWIW, my dark horse on D this year is L. Davis. Love the way that young man plays!

Tankersley and Jadar Johnson will have very little drop off from last season. Wiggins is a vast improvement over Blanks at Nickel/Sam. Just gotta find a corner opposite Tank and a safety opposite Jadar.

I think everyone is going to be on the Tanner Muse train early myself. As a senior in high school he was faster & bigger than Kearse. Plus he had this entire year in the shadows learning the playbook, practicing with the best team in college football (I don't even count that loss on January 11th, we won on the stat sheet), and getting stronger / faster? I'm thinking Muse has teams thinking twice about throwing to begin with. Add in Wiggins, Tankersley, Mullen, etc... I'd put us against almost anyone tomorrow and bet the whole stack, honestly.

You'd think Fields with a year in the system,

but who knows for sure. Maybe Mullen, as a true fresh, will be a freak like Alexander. If he can, he'll have to do it without the advantages of having a RS year to learn the system. Just so we're clear, I believe we'll have a great D! We WILL BE A TOP 10 D again this year. Whoever plays opposite Tank that I'm having the hardest time not seeing a bit of "growing pains." Hey, we can afford to give up a first down every 2 games when you're going to average 50+ points!

There is very little experience or depth. The talent is there.
There will definitely be some drop off early on in the year

Which has me thinking about our defensive needs for our 2017 recruiting class. A stud DT to pair up with Dexter, 2 stud DE's, 2 4* or better LB's, and 4 4*+ DB's. Any way the coaches want to add other than that is fine with me. I know we all want 5*'s at every position but I'm just listing this as a minimum requirement. Any thoughts?
