2 National radio personalities say LSU is in the Final Top 5

Jan 8, 2013, 4:40 PM

Today Colin Coherd and Mad Dog on XM Radio said LSU is one of Top 5 teams. Herbie was on Colin's show and actually agreed with him. What are these guys smoking? LSU has THREE losses and the last of which happened one week ago giving up 450ish yards while only gaining 219 yards themselves.

Like I said, the self-fulfulling prophesy begins anew

Every year this happens with the SEC teams. Somehow the pundits immediately bypass the "eye test" that they JUST FREAKING SAW, and fire up the hype machines. And the cycle repeats...it's killing college football for me (and many others from the sound of it).

hard time for having Ohio State in his final top 5. I doubt either would put LSU in top ten even.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but I was thinking

Jan 8, 2013, 4:55 PM

today about who I thought could have played with Alabama last night. Which teams would I have given a fair shot to beat the Crimson Tide?

The 1st team to come to mind was LSU.

I know that there are other teams out there, but LSU is built to contend with Alabama's style of play.

Until we get a real playoff (8 or 16 teams) we can argue all day about rankings. However, if you forced me to pick the team to have a shot at Alabama on a consistent basis, it would be LSU.

Look, any team can get beat by other good teams on the right day, but the teams I'd give a shot last night in order.

1.LSU
2.Oregon
3.Stanford
4.Georgia
5.Texas A&M

I'd also like to note for the SEC HOMERS that Texas A&M isn't good because of their ONE year in the SEC.

It's not to say that Clemson couldn't be a team that beats Alabama on an occasion, but if I needed beat them for SURE?? I'd start with LSU.

You would give LSU a shot

Jan 8, 2013, 5:09 PM

before Oregon or A&M?

LSU proved on the field that they can't beat Bama, even at their own place. A&M smacked Bama in Tuscaloosa. Oregon's only loss was an epic to a very, very good team in Stanford. I'd like to see what kind of fits Oregon's offense could give Bama. One thing's for sure: It's much more lethal than Notre Dame's and their defense may be as good or better, too.

Stanford crushed Oregon at the point of attack and totally

shut down their offense. You don't think Bama could do the same if Saban had over a month to prepare?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes. I know A&M beat them but like I said if I had to

Jan 8, 2013, 10:08 PM [ in reply to You would give LSU a shot ]

Beat them I'd give LSU the shot. Thats not a slight against A&M, but if every team played Bama ten times I think LSU would win more than the others mentioned.

I agree that Oregon would be fun to watch but I think Bama pounds them between the tackles.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpgtnt_user_logo.pngbadge-ringofhonor-elswann.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it should go Oregon, Tex A&M, Georgia, LSU, Stan

I think Oregon would've won, Tex A&M already won on their turf, Georgia was a stupid clock management guffaw from winning, LSU already lost, and Stanford never had a chance.

How can you say Georgia was a "stupid clock management guffaw from winning", yet say "LSU already lost"?

Alabama vs. Georgia was back and forth the whole game with Alabama having the advantage most of the time.

In the LSU game, LSU played a really soft prevent defense on the last drive of the game, and Bama needed a miracle drive to score a touchdown and beat LSU.

LSU was dominating that game against Alabama, even with some stupid play calls by the coach and personal foul calls on their players.

It makes no sense that you'd give Georgia a pass, and yet say "LSU already lost" to completely discredit that they nearly beat Bama. They SHOULD have beaten Bama.

They were talking about next season top 5. I heard it too. They didn't mention the number of people they were loosing either.

Yes. But 6 of them are on defense. LSU just reloads on defense. Defense is always good under Chavis.

Offense loses 2... Ware and Ford. Both running backs. But LSU has like 5 good running backs, so it isn't a problem for them. They still have Blue (who was injured last year), Hill, and Hilliard.

Good thing LSU had more than 1 yard offensively in the 4th quarter.

They had 8.

Feels great to be in the top 5.

One yard. Look it up. A sack may have negated some of their yardage
