are we a young football team?

Dec 1, 2012, 10:02 AM

if you listen to some people we are a young football team and have been for a few years. is this possible? i just read a newspaper article that said sc redshirted 26 players this year. i do not think we are any younger than most other teams. we have two 5 star lb who dont play. we have to look at s&c, player development, player evaluation, and all else that goes into winning. i truly believe even being in the acc if we had beat fsu and sc, we would have been in the nc. we need to quit making excuses and find solutions! we can only use being a young team so long. imo we are no younger than most other teams.

Maybe Dabo has had them swimming in the "Cocoon" pool!

.. I think it's so silly when people talk about how young college football teams are. After all, this is COLLEGE football. YES, our college football team will always be young.

So, at the college level, you don't think there is a difference between zero experience and three years of experience? Really?

i just dont want to hear the same thing every year. at some point we are not a young team anymore. how many were redshirted this year? i mean we moved d linemen to make them o linemen. i can buy the youth theory 1 or 2 yaers but not 4 for gods sake. i do understand how inportant experience is, but at some point we SHOULD have some players with experience i hope. just dont p on my leg and tell me its raining!!

We did have a bigger case for being young last season, but we did play a lot of youth on D this year and several on O are just second season starters. That's pretty young. Next year we definitely cannot make the youth excuse.

Big difference in a 18 year old and a 22 year old.

Its a Process

We are young on a very vulnerable spot - D Line.

Our O-Line is just now getting fortified. I'd say two more years and Dabo will have a 2 deep to rival any in Clemson's History.

Recruiting will only get better as we continue to demonstrate success on the field and elite staff continuity.

We need some more big boys up front on both sides to compliment the ATH that always sign with us... then we will really be a tough out.

offensive and defensive lines, doesn't come about by being soft.

You and the guys at STS just had your feelings hurt losing to Carolina again.

Depends on who you ask and your definition of young.

Dec 1, 2012, 10:47 AM

We don't have that many seniors this year.

Young? That was always Bowdens excuse.......imho that excuse has been worn thin.....

We're young for sure on the DL. 1 Senior with everybody else Sophomores and Freshmen. Compare that to South Caroline who started 2 Seniors plus All Everything Clowney. They had a Senior and a Junior on their 2nd team DL. Their DL won the game for them with all of that QB pressure.

Next year they'll have to replace those 2 Seniors. The year after that Clowney will be in the NFL. Clemson will have 3 Seniors on the DL then.

We are in a way. Our 2008 class had 12 players in it and a few of those are no longer with the team I think we have 11 seniors only 9 or 10 were scholarship players. What we lack is senior leadership and some of those guys stepping up in a big way. Goodman has not lived up to potential Hall has seemed to have regressed from his lights out play as a freshman. part of it may be that they have had to learn 3 different defenses. Hopefully our d will continue to improve from this year to next, I think the biggest thing we have been missing is an elite pass rusher on the end but hopefully we pick one or two up this cycle and that will take some of the pressure off our secondary.

Player development sucks. Ex: Rashard Hall no better now...

than as a freshman.
