I love Dabo, but..

He needs to own it. Long time fan, first time posting. Lots of comments talking about O line and DJ, but this is all on Dabo. He is the head guy and responsible for the product on the field. I think he is great and the team is still really good, but not elite. I’ve been reading posts on this board about the poor play calling and O line play since 2019, and I 100% agree these are areas that need to be addressed to win another natty. Question is what has Dabo done since 2019 to address. Looks exactly the same to me. We are one playoff loss away from becoming the next Choklahoma, the team nobody wants to see in the playoff because they cruise through an easy schedule and then can’t compete in a big boy football game. The loss last night was bad but what concerns me more is UGA is not elite. Great defense but they will get hammered by Bama with that offense. We were elite from 2015-2018 but not at that level 2019-2021.

Typical reply for losers. Stick your heads in the sand, disrespect the opponents, their players and coaches and never admit we got beat. In some respect, I agree with Tigersnake but Dabo always credits the other team because he is a credit to Clemson and the coaching profession. We got beat and have to own it and work our tails off to get better. Because we have won 3 National Championships does guarantee us anything and Dabo certainly knows that. We may not win the ACC or make the Playoff but we will get better.

He makes $8.3 million a year. He deserves every penny of that. But the offense is subpar, especially for our overall talent, resources, fan/administrative support, and what we pay our assistants.
We will see if he addresses it and fixes it. I believe he will.

It is a shame that someone can offer their opinion on this board and be called a name for doing so. Intolerance of other opinions is ignorance.

Welcome to TNet. The forums are controlled by a group of about 15 idiots who don't want to hear anything other than sunshine and rainbows. Anyone who deviates from the path is a "Coot".

That's how it goes here with the rainbows. Make a critical comment about the weak Oline, not using the transfer portal or the lack of a backup qb........and they follow up with the "coot" or of course "truss the coaches".

The coaches have gotten us 10 straight 10 win seasons, 6 straight playoffs, and 2 National Championships. Trust the coaches is generally a pretty good response. They will critique themselves, much of the time reaching the same conclusion in hindsight that we did, and do a lot better job of identifying what went wrong or right.

Just like the transfer portal. We need to be involved with it.

Thanks for this post. I agree that he may be loyal to Caldwell and Elliott to a fault.
To the critics of my post, I’m no coot or troll. Just a spoiled, frustrated fan that wants to get back to being the best. It just doesn’t appear that any changes have been made since 2019 to address these problems. Dabo is the GOAT of Clemson coaches, but he’s not above being questioned about this.

Dabo has been far too complacent with Caldwell. The recruiting has gotten better at the OL, but the results seem to be getting worse. Caldwell is a lousy talent developer.
Dabo will fix this, but I don't think it can be fixed this season.

When you have accomplished what Dabo has you give him the benefit of the doubt. He knows what the problems are and he will correct them. He believes in good people and will give them a chance. If they don't produce he will do what is necessary. Clemson just played a crappy game against a top team and could of won. Be patient and this could be a special year.

The dude has a point. We fail at developing offensive linemen. It's all about coaching and we stink up the room (and have been for years) with coaching our line. Great quarterbacks make a lot of people look good.
Streeter is a nice guy, good coach but has not shown he can develop quarterbacks to the next level. He did not do that with DW or TL. What can he do with DJ? We will see but it starts with Streeter.
Go Tigers, I hope we can make a run and look A LOT better on offense.

Given the status of our program these last 5 years, I consider a special season one which results in a national championship.
You know, “best is the standard” and all that.

We are not the best in the country right now, but does it really matter? I don't think that we were the best in the country at the beginning of 2018 either, but there's no question that we were at the end.

Thanks for some of the legit replies. I’m no coot or troll. Just a spoiled, frustrated fan who wants to see us compete for a natty again. We’ll probably be 12-1 after 7th straight ACC championship, but I don’t think we compete for it all again until Dabo makes some tough decisions. I agree with poster who said he is loyal to a fault.

Welcome. Just ignore the "coot" stuff, it's ridiculous but part of the deal I guess
I generally agree with you although I fear Dabo's loyalty to Elliot and Caldwell if he really HAS to make a change. I'm not out on Elliot yet, although he needs to be more creative and learn how to adjust better in game. The O-Line is clearly a different story and needs to be addressed, otherwise changes have to happen. I also am starting to question if Streeter is an issue, but that's far from the biggest problem
I think college football is fluid, every year there's 2-3 elite teams and 2-3 "close to elite teams". From 2015-2019 Clemson was in the elite group (sans the KB year). Like it or not, LSU was historically good in 2019 and nobody was going to deny them (like us in 2018). I feel like we're currently in the "close tier" with OKLA, UGA, etc. Fixing the O-Line and some changes on play-calling could fix us quick because it looks like the defense is going to be nasty this year

Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water. Sure, we were dominated on the OL. So was UGA, with us down an All-American starter. It is game 1 and I think there is reason to believe our line play will improve significantly as the season progresses. Let’s evaluate this again in say 8 weeks.
