I live in Columbia

Nov 15, 2013, 10:14 PM

Not sure why anyone would choose to go to Scar besides those kids who have no choice.

The place doesn't even feel like a college campus. And it's littered with riff raff.

Seriously, if you have a choice between attending beautiful Clemson and the dump Scar...it's not a choice at all.

..and USC's campus is very small..maybe 175 acres??

..the farm I grew up on was bigger than that. Clemson is as you said the easy choice.....

On top of it being a crappy school academically too. I have no idea why anyone would choose that #### poor school.

Real USC about the same

Nov 15, 2013, 10:24 PM [ in reply to Re: I live in Columbia ]

Real USC is crap too. Has not college feel really. Crappy neighborhood. Crime.

football practice field is a joke, at least a year ago when I was walking around.

Although I think they spent 60 million this year re doing that.

They really only had 1 full practice field to work on and a 4o yard field.

UCLA may be even worse. Still haven't found the football practice fields at that school yet.

Los Angeles is the worst college town. No college feel at all.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

if you think the neighborhood is bad now

Nov 15, 2013, 10:57 PM

you should have seen it in the early '90's...wow. They've done tons there since the '90's. I agree that it isn't "collegey" there though i love the building architecture at SC in the campus main area. UCLA is beautiful....another world up in Westwood. If you really want to see a beautiful campus in Cali, go up to Stanford....you will be amazed. Think Clemson west with tons of Oaks and hills and grass and scenery. Prettiest campus outside of Clemson i've ever seen.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Martel, I have heard the same

Nov 16, 2013, 10:54 AM [ in reply to Real USC about the same ]

It is really strange that a school with that kind of football tradition suffers those kind of amenities or lack thereof.

Many don't realize that Southern Cal is a private school and is highly regarded academically.....from what I have heard though it is not in a great area of town.

Nov 15, 2013, 11:00 PM

I grew up off of Forest Drive, less than 5 minutes from that hole of a campus. The only area on the whole dump that is remotely campus like is the Horseshoe. There's zero charm or appeal there and their warehouse district of a stadium is a joke too. They will never be anything but the little man who's begging for recognition. I hope every Garnet and Black game is a 0-0 tie and I want them to feel that way about us too.

Probably to become a lawyer or a Doctor. There are many Clemson graduates that go to school in Columbia.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

MUSC is not part of USC. In fact, there are more Clemson

Nov 16, 2013, 5:55 AM

grads, most years, than USC grads attending the MUSC.

As for lawyers, again, just as many Clemson grads go to Carolina's law school as the USC grads.

The mean salary of a Clemson grad 10 years after graduation is the highest in the state, and far exceeds USC. In fact, both Furman, The Citadel and Wofford also exceed USC.

South Carolina also has 10,000 more undergrads than all of those schools combined. That's if you only count the Columbia campus.

South Carolina's goal is to improve the state and the lives of its citizens, not to impress some magazine or website rankings

I attended CU for undergrad ('92) and then SC ('96) for International MBA ~ The two were virtual polar opposites and my heart will always be with Clemson. However, I found SC campus life at that time to enjoyable as well. Downtown Columbia has changed alot in the past 20 years though it seems.

I agree Columbia is an absolute hole....but acreage/sq miles if a campus have no bearing in its beauty. It all depends on what you want. Urban campuses can be really, really nice though they're obviously much different than a rural campus like Clemson's.
