they actually played somebody, because there's no way in hayull anybody half-way objective would have them in the top 15 based on what they did today. I mean, if we were starting with a clean slate, making no assumptions, who would have looked at Auburn today and gone, "Dang, they're one of the very best teams in the whole country!"? But hey, that's what the SEC relies on, and what keeps the charade going.

Mine is that how a team actually plays is a lot more meaningful than how poll voters think they will play.

Yes, but how do you measure "how a team plays" beyond results. I'd say Louisville would have "played better" against Furman, PC, Wofford, etc. I think it's safe to say we may not have played the same against stiffer competition. Everybody is a world beater against a much lesser opponent (typically). I'm just suggesting that relativity may exist in college football.

I agree about the relativity and all of that. I just think preseason polls are BS, and it's just my opinion of course, but I didn't think Auburn looked anywhere close to the 6th best team in the country. While both are flawed and far from perfect, I give a lot more weight to actual performance (relativity considered) than I do to preseason polls.

The whole preseason ranking nonsense really is sickening. I don't care how many returning starters are being brought back from last year. Last year was last year. This is a new season. But as you said, the charade continues.
