The Defensive Line Gave up in the 4th Quarter

2

Oct 22, 2023, 12:42 PM

That was the reason we lost this game. Not because of any one of the stupid play calls or fumbled balls.

Miami was able to drive it down our throats and score twice to tie up the ball game and there was nothing our defense could do but load the box and they still got 6 yards per carry.

I've said this before, but to be fair, our offense wore them out by keeping them on the field so long.

Our offense did not wear out the D. The defense had only played 35 snaps with 2 minutes left in the 3rd after the Briningstool TD that put us up by 10.

100% Agree.

Miami had the ball for like over 13 min in the 4th quarter bc the offense can’t get a first down … the offense DEF did not help the defense … bc besides the long td run on the first drive they played pretty decent for the rest of the game until the 4th when they got worn down. This offense has to be better all there is to it.

Yes, the offense sucked. However, they are not the reason why the defense got pimp slapped in the 4th quarter. They blew a 10 point lead to a team with an inexperience true freshman at QB and they were not on the field too much prior to laying down.

I disagree. Our offense just finished a scoring drive and they came back and ran it down our throat for a touchdown.

Our DL took the 4th quarter off.

I don't know that they gave up so much as that they got physically

whipped. Maybe our D-Line is not as physical as many would like to believe? I know that was the case last year too, i.e., not up to the hype. I wonder more about practices, strength & conditioning, coaches seemingly each game. I wonder about a lot with this football program right now.

Other teams are more competitive now with quality players choosing them in the portal. Clemson hasn't benefited from the portal like the rest of the conference and you would expect that as the weaker teams benefit more. Also, we don't train hard.

Glad they didn’t have 3 weeks to prepare. They would’ve gotten beat much worse.

Dline has been average since 2019. In the 2018 championship season, the 4 starters had been coached up by Dan Brooks even though he retired after 2016 season, then we started our friends and player hires - the rest is history.

When your OL is as bad as ours, you might’ve thought our DL was unstoppable in practice… but then you play other teams and realize our OL just sucks.

I just can't be upset at the defense for giving up 17 points total in regulation, no matter who the QB is on the opposing team. Not saying them running it down our throat in the 4th qtr isn't concerning. It's the fact that we also only scored 17 points in regulation with a more "experienced" QB. 17 points total doesn't beat many teams with a pulse in modern football these days.

This game is 90% to blame on our inept, absent, abysmal, choked out offensive coaching.

Game Stats are for idiots.

We all witnessed the fourth quarter and saw what happened. They ran it down our throats for two consecutive drives that tied the game.

What changed?

What changed? I wish I could tell you. There's too many things I could point at in this program currently and go "That's the root of the problem, right there!"

That was the most disappointing aspect of the whole game to me, how Clemson just got outplayed in the 4th quarter. Looks like the boys need some more conditioning.
