No pesky NIL money being thrown around. Just kids playing ball.

They have a decent team every 4-5 years depending on talent/seniority. They always seem to get a good coach using them as a stepping stone to the next job. With no expectations, this lends itself to this type of team every so often.

have that perfect storm of 5th year, or in this case, 6th year seniors. Wake Forest isn't losing too many Juniors to the NFL.

They don’t have a fat, garbage QB. And a bunch of guys that have played together for a long time. And the coaching is solid. They won’t beat us at home unless DJ is gonna DJ again for the 4th time.

I think Dave Clawson is a very underrated coach. And they do have a bunch of veteran players. Good for them. I would love to see us knock off an undefeated Wake team. GoooooTigers!!!!!!!

The QB is the real deal. Those of you with Netflix can go back and watch a show called QB1 season 2. Hartman is profiled along with fields and Spencer rattler. The kids good and has been for 3 years. He got hurt one year.
So yeah, if we get into a shoot out with them it might be a long day for us. We ll just have to wait and see

Has a lot to do with retaining players and having a veteran team. Wish we didn’t have so many leave all the time, makes it pretty tough now to keep any consistency. Need to use the portal some, the Michigan State kid who ran wild today was a transfer (from Wake Forest ironically).

coach. Other than the Covid year last year which was a mess for a lot teams, WF has won 7-8 games every year going back to 2016. They are one of the most consistent programs in the league and we probably would have met them in the ACCCG at some point over the last few years had they been in the Coastal. That had a nice win over TAM in a bowl game a few years ago.

So you got a bunch of 23-year-old men and a veteran QB that knows what he’s doing.
Defense ain’t great, but they can score. And that’s definitely enough against most teams.

I am looking forward to see how our defense matches up to their offense. We have shutdown the Clawfense the last two years and even with the injuries, this is the best defense we have put on the field in quite some time.
Wakes defense is not very good. If we can complete a few passes, we should be able to run the ball at will on them.
I expect us to have a role reversal and play spoiler for a change. I think Clemson will end the year with the nations longest home winning streak.
Hopefully our fans will show up and the deacs will have to play in the real Death Valley

And could this finally be the year that WF brings more fans to DV than band members? Last time I went to a WF game at DV I wanted to talk to some of their fans but both of them were busy talking to large crowds.

The players don't leave early to go to the pros so they have a bunch of 4th and 5th year seniors plus now they have about 20 super COVID seniors. Wake and Pitt have an average player age as high as some NFL teams. Well nearly, if you throw out Brady and Tampa.

Great coach, QB and a lot of 5/6 year guys. The extra year of eligibility because of COVID has really benefited WF.

Wake has the most experienced roster in the ACC. Pair that with a QB/offense that is playing hot right now and the results speak for themselves...

Are they that good? They gave up 56 to Army and very nearly lost to Syracuse + Louisville.
This week they feasted on very weak competition. (Last week Duke lost to Virginia 48-0)

It sure helps that we are having a down year and it’s not like they’ve played a murderers row schedule. Good on them for beating UVA and FSU, but 3 point wins vs Syracuse and UL aren’t going to garner much national attention. Good chance they close out the last 4 with 2 losses. Hopefully one of them bring to us. Unc or NCST will beat them too.
That said, nice to see Wake having a good start. No hate towards that program.

Teams who recruit on a lower level seek guys who will develop. Dabo once was on that level. A 4star guy at 17 as opposed to a guy well trained 3star who is 22 is fun.
As I have been saying since day one, Sam Hartman is a baller. He is a 3star kid who is too small. I have been a fan since day one. He lost the job and was not discouraged. He is not NFL, but is an excellent college player. He is a baller. If Kenneth Walker had not transferred to MS, Wake would be seen as a legit top ten team.
Next year Wake will fall back for a couple years.

It's a down year all around in College Football.
That being said, Dave Clawson is a great coach and he deserves a ton of credit for the job he's doing at Wake.

Always liked Wake. Small school, but with solid coaching and solid 3 star players. When they get it together they are impressive, but always as a 'small' school playing over their head. If they were the size of Illinois or Maryland, for instance, I'd see them as a bunch of losers.

Take a look at their schedule. They’re a decent team, for sure, but they probably won’t play a ranked team in their regular schedule.

Dave Clausen , Simple as that . My Son played Football at University of Richmond and Clausen was his Coach in 2005 , 2006 . Richmond Won the A 10 then the National Championship the Year after Clausen left fo Tennessee. He Recruited all those players , several of which went on to play in the NFL . Mike London got credit but Clausen Put that Team together and My Son always Said DAVE CLAUSEN was one of the Best Coaches in the Country !

Clausen + staff;
COVID 6th year seniors;
Creative/strange offensive schemes;
Accurate QB; and
No NIL issues.
On that last point, I don't know Clemson's perspective on NIL, but I'll tell you that there are numerous rumors among UNC fans that NIL has created a lot of chemistry issues on UNC's team this season, with older guys on the team being jealous of the money younger guys like Tony Grimes are making. In addition, the money the team thought would come in through Jordan's Jump Man association has been much less than they imagined.

They are a very good offensive team. Very good QB and very good receivers. Their defense is "turrible".
