Herbstreit's take on CFP voting

Oct 30, 2022, 8:48 AM

Said yesterday the committee should vote for the teams they think can *win* the big game. So deserving to be there because they won their conference/went undefeated's got nothing to do with it.

Which leaves it wide open for an all SEC/B10 playoff.

Test nonsense. Sillier than SleeperJoe saying gas prices are lower now than when he took office. Lie, Deny and Accuse all in the Commie Playbook.

Herby is spinning.

Yes Kirk the regular season does matter. If for some reason and undefeated Clemson team gets left out, this CFP might blow up quicker than you think.

Herbie. And he wasnt spinning and he didnt say the season doesnt matter. Sheesh, man.

He was actually pretty fired up at that point as the panel was getting mired in strength/sked, wins/losses, etc.

He's right. You pick the teams you think can win the trophy. Which, this year, could** leave even undefeated Clemson, undefeated TCU, out.

This comes up every year and it has always sorted itself out. Money says it will this year too.

It never gets sorted out it only goes into hibernation a few months a year.

Wrong! You pick the team that earned it in the regular season hence marking the regular season count. See how that works. We are not talking about group of 5 here.

With your logic let’s put some 2 loss teams in if they are hot at the end if they are hot.

It shouldn't be dependent on voting at all. That's the

But I dont know how you avoid voting.
Unless all the P5's *vote* to agree that all P5 champs are in.
Which brings its own problems.

Maybe we should just go back to having college football just be fun/bragging rights. When bowls were their own reward and coaches werent paid like hedge fund managers.

Im only half-kidding.

Agree, but with 130 teams vying for same championship they have to vote on who makes the playoffs. They could have minimized the effect of voting somewhat by expanding to 8 teams, but instead are going to 12 where voting decides who’s in and goes a step further to decide 4 of them get a bye into the semis.

College football (fans and media) is addicted to the idea they know what teams are worthy based on eye tests despite evidence to the contrary such as 44-16, 31-0, etc.

They could restructure conferences as needed to allow for

Oct 30, 2022, 11:20 AM

a legitimate playoff. There would be resistance, of course, but if we want a legitimate playoff that ends all of these stupid, biased, subjective judgements deciding who wins the beauty pageant, it could be done.

I think a lot of you guys are forgetting how much of an improvement this system is over the one we had before - you know, where sports writers and coaches voted their prejudices and that was it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Oh, I remember, and this is much, much better ... and has

Oct 30, 2022, 6:20 PM

worked pretty good. Still, it is open to disaster because it still depends on the opinions of people who not only themselves are biased, but are susceptible to the influence of the very powerful sports media who drive their biased message non-stop, to the point of if we are not conscious of it, we start to accept the narratives they create. So, while most of the committee members, so far, have done a good job at least trying to avoid and overcome that, it's there. My point is, it doesn't have to be, and it shouldn't be.

The 12 teams are about one thing...MONEY...more playoff games more for espn & company...Clemson draws viewers but in the meantime let's have a little drama...ESPN soap opera...right now this is all on Dabo...he knows about last year and he saw it again vs. Syracuse...no different...he owns the outcome, win or lose he guides us in or out and we can't get in with a half as**d QB...none of the top teams has one cept us...I fear that Dabo waited too long!

And almost lost to 2 of the ones that did not have a pulse. Is Bama really passing an “eye test” this year if you take the A off the helmet. Nope.

I said Bama and Oregon had the BEST LOSES. Guess I should have included PSU with 2 OUTSTANDING LOSES! All seem to be better than any of our wins.

If there is no need to earn your way there then dont even play the season. Just take whoever this committee thinks can win it day 1 and start the playoff. Oh wait, we already do that, its called the regular season. Freaking clown show.

Re: Herbstreit's take on CFP voting

It's this simple, you take the 5 conference Champs, the one ranked the lowest goes to the new year's 6, the top 4 go to the cfp. End of discussion. I don't give a rats ### how good of a season you thought you had, if you didn't win your conference, you sure as hell don't belong in the cfp.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Herbstreit's take on CFP voting

Oct 30, 2022, 10:33 PM

If you can’t even win your own division you don’t deserve to be there. I understand maybe losing your conference championship to a top 4 team but not your division.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Herbstreit's take on CFP voting

Oct 30, 2022, 10:36 PM

There’s no difference in those two things. You are assuming or insinuating that conferences are perfectly balanced. Tennessee losing to UGA, or vice versa, should not be any “worse” on their resume than losing to Bama in the conf champ game.
