It tdidn't take a rocket scientist to know DW lied...

May 29, 2013, 9:24 AM

when Carvell stated that he saw him there - Carvell can't stake HIS reputation on lies. Also, the Auburn boards were stating it too. So EVERYONE on the planet was wrong???? NOT! I just waited. If you've been a parent as long as I have, you'd smell a lie in an instant.

That said - I taught my kids that there are serious repercussions when they lost my trust in them. It's a big problem. Someone needs to step up and let DW know that deceit has serious penalties. He needs to figure out really quickly how to stop that. For me - he gets an instant RS if he wears ORANGE, but I don't coach and surely Dabo has a better plan. Dabo is a solid individual that can teach this young man how he should behave, so DW is in good hands.

Nkimdeche still has no clue. Glad he's at ole miss.

Good coaches

don't punish the whole team for one player's mistake. If he is good enough to play and you redshirt him for one mistake then the whole team is punished. If there were to be any punishment (which I am not saying there should be) it should only affect Watson and nobody else.

being a parent and a coach are two totally different things. DW is not Coach Swinney's child and if you threaten a redshirt for what is ultimately his right to choose, then you will lose his commitment all together. the better plan is to hash out a plan that DW commits to that gives him an opportunity to rebuild his word. if he doesn't agree to it, then you really know what you have in regards to his character, his verbal commitment and where his head is.
don't totally disregard that it was an assistant coach on his high school team (a confidant and a mentor) that convinced him or at a minimum opened the door to this trip. i believe that if that assistant had not opened that door, DW would not have asked to go along. the real question is how long will the head coach keep an assistant on staff who undermined his influence and authority with a player and his word to another head coach he values an open and honest relationship with??
