Hasnt Dabo earned it?

I’m as frustrated as the rest of you with how the season has gone, but Dabo is paid the amount he’s paid because of what he’s done. Have people forgotten that?
Tyler obviously has. Dabo Swinney has essentially put Clemson University on the map. He’s certainly put the football program on the map. And sure, he deserves criticism for how this season has gone. But in this age of big buyouts and overpaid coaches, I’m not sure Dabo is undeserving.

I would make one slight disagreement. “He put Clemson back on the map”.

History wasn’t so kind when Coach Ford left. Trying to find a better coach didn’t work out too well as Clemson was nothing but inconsistent before Swinney. Many assume that replacing Swinney would equate to being back to making playoffs and winning national titles. One could hope, but it wouldn’t be a sure thing. Would a blue chip coach want to come to a place that just ran their the coach that had the most wins in history (he will get another win) out of town because he didn’t make the playoffs for two years and had a bad season?

I'm from Anderson and been going to games for over 40 years.
Yes, Clemson came on the map prominently in 1981. And fell off during Hatfield & West.
Tommy Bowden put Clemson back "on the map" because he coached in the same conference as his dad, Bobby. And that didn't last long.

Bowden was very inconsistent except he had Clemson playing in mid-tier bowl games yearly and also had a decent record against the gamecocks. His best seasons were 2000 (team couldn’t sustain the success and fell off at the end), 2003 (team rebounded and finished the season very strong), and 2007 (could have made the ACC championship, if they beat BC).

He did. We were a middle if the road ACC team. Our glory days left with Danny Ford.

I think it’s more his cocky attitude to the people of the upstate, than it is about the win loss record, to be honest

It's not cocky if you've earned it. He's getting hit on all sides...

He is also paid that with the expectation that we would remain an elite football program.

What other coaches are maintaining an elite program? Two. Saban and Smart. Nobody else is currently with two or more nattys. So one terrible season doesn’t mean he’s not elite or the program isn’t elite.

He has earned it to be rude to callers and not be professional as a spokesperson for clemson?
That call was a trap and he fell right into it.

Both Tyler and Dabo have the right, as Americans, to rant and rave inane nonsense on call-in radio shows!

You get paid for what you’re doing now not what you’ve already done. He’s getting paid 11 mill a year to win games now. Today.
Too many people get caught up paying people based on legacies. He already got paid handsomely for that.
While some leash is in order you can’t be 4-4 and potentially miss a bowl when being paid the big bucks.

Earned what?
I’m not being a smartazz. You yourself said no one is above criticism and that is all I heard in Tyler’s call.
