Maryland will have more money than us on all of this

Nov 19, 2012, 12:08 PM

when exit fee paid and all that BIG 10 TV money starts rolling in. They're pretty smart.

where's your evidence?***

I'm pretty sure they're not splitting the exit fee with us.

Negative ghost rider...

Now they may bring in a little more per school up in the Big, but not after we ink Notre Dame 100% or either add Louisville.

Yeah real smart

They're now a part of a conference in which they have zero ties and their teams are even more irrelevant than before. Maryland sold-out and their remorse will show sooner than later.

You sound bitter but I am happy for them. i wish we could

leave.

Great. So they have more money now...

Nov 19, 2012, 12:17 PM

You think that's going to help them win Big 10 titles? All the money in the world ain't gonna help them do that. They had a fighting chance in the ACC, they were a charter member, and hey have rivalries. The ONLY positive of this move is more money-- that's it.

Good Lord I hope we don't make the same mistake and join the Big 12. What's happening to college sports is a shame.

All that SEC money to SUC seems to have made a difference - don't you think?

The monetary impact on football: Maryland's football program has long operated on a limited budget, thus unable to extend its recruiting reach on a national scale like some of the country's football powers. But last year Big Ten schools received $24.6 million in shared revenue, not to mention the windfall from the Big 10 television network. That immediate cash influx should benefit Maryland as it attempts to lure in more elite recruits and become a player with some of the nation's top talent.

They are trying to sell it

Nov 19, 2012, 12:17 PM

Fans are not happy

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure about all of this. A lot of it is based on hope...

Nov 19, 2012, 12:17 PM

hope that Rutgers and Maryland somehow inspire folks from DC to NYC to suddenly order the Big Ten network from their local cable providers. But as we know, that area is not a hotbed for college football and, let's face it, the popularity of college hoops is waning.

You might be right, but it is not a certainty and I think somewhat of a gamble by Md's AD. This reminds me of the government bailing out the auto companies and banks a bit. Md basically ran their athletic program into the ground over the past 5-10 years and was forced to cut many programs. Yet, here comes the Big Ten to bail them out from their own mismanagement.
