I trust Bakich but leaving both of these guys out doesn’t seem right

It's the middle of February, some guys aren't ready this early and most will have a short leash (pitch count)

Gordon is on pitch count due to being overused in the offseason. Darden will get his opportunities. Coach said don’t think too much into the rotation. Rocco Reid, Joe Allen and Mathew Marchal are guys you’ll see get starts as well

How are you used too much in off season? With scholarship to Clemson, is there any responsibility to be prepared to play?

He pitched a full season in spring, summer ball for team USA, and then came back for fall ball and needed a break in November/December. He also low key gets shelled a lot...he's had some rough outings in the fall ball game versus Coastal and also in the spring scrimmages.

The reason Gordon’s pitch count is down, is because Gordon pitched all last spring, summer and into the fall without a real break. When the Tigers faced Coastal Carolina in a scrimmage this past fall, the coaches could see he was tired. All parties involved agreed the junior righty needed time to rest and recuperate.

“His body was just tired. It was time to give him a break,” Bakich said. “I’m a firm believer that pitchers should not throw the ball twelve months out of a year. You have to put the ball down sometimes, and for him the time to put the ball down was somewhere in October, November and December.”

Because Gordon put the ball down so late, his ramp time to get back is a little bit slower than someone like Billy Barlow, who was coming off an injury and did not pitch for most of last season.
