I thought they missed several tackles that would have set allbarn with a loss.

Defense

I would be lieing if I said the defense played as well as I thought they would.
The DEs played pretty well, but outside of that. The rest of the D looked alitle clueless in the 1st half.
But sure, good ajustments at half...after that 2 Fgs. #21

The two blown coverages
Sep 2, 2012, 10:43 AM
|
|
wont even take practice.
They will show the film, and say do this!
I think the only thing i didnt like was only rushing three alot. I felt like the best attack on Frazier and there RBs was pressure.
And when we did rush three, i did think we were a little weak on coverage there. So i do think BV needs to do some work on coverage.

if their TE hadn't fallen down, it would have been two TD's. The guy got ahead of himself; he was shocked that he wasn't even covered and fell down.

"I think we all know what would have happened if we were to give up touchdowns instead of fieldgoals"
This is exactly right. Have to fins the positives, and this one is HUGE! Plenty of improvement to be made, but glad they stepped up when they needed to.

Could easily have rammed it down our throats but decided to let that wannabe-QB take over... our D still hasnt proved much

To me it appeared the Dline was getting a good push

and the LB's were getting in the back field ......we just missed a lot of tackles in the back field. But the D looks very promising.
Anthony was always near the ball.

We did miss tackles, but one thing I was happy with in the defense was that if we hit the guy he almost always went down. It may have not always been a big thug, but it was at least keeping a hold of the guy and stopping the play.

The D-line showed up in the second half and really pushed through. The LB's were there and made some plays, but they still didn't look like they really knew where to be.
The Secondary was a disaster. The TE that caught the ball in the first half and fell down - no coverage. Their wideout that just missed the ball in the endzone while our guy was spinning around trying to find the ball..... If their QB had been anything other than a a first time started, we would have been picked apart. That game would have gone entirely differently.
I am GLAD we won. BV made some changes in the second half; I am exstatic that we have someone who finally gets that you have to adjust in the second half if what yo are doing isn't working. He really has some work to do with the DB's if we don't want to be humiliated by FSU.

we did not look great against Troy nor Wofford yet we went on to beat Auburn, FSU and VT on a thursday night in Blacksburg. This is just one game. Like Dabo said we proved we were better than Aubbie last night. I do like BV tried somethign different. Yes we have work to do. Lots of it, but something tells me BV will get it done.

What a joke. We were terrible on defense until the last two series. If Auburn had a decent QB, they would have scored a bunch.
I can't believe any Clemson fan would think that was an even average defense. BV did nothing to impress me.
Chad will have to carry this team again.

Our D looked better than it did against usc and wv. We made stops when it counted, You cant come in and fix a D like you can a O. It will just take a little time but I liked the look of our D. And to say auburn coulda shoulda scored, well boyd had a guy wide open and missed him due to a short arm throw sooooo.. Its the first game and I THINK we can still improve tons.. Im happy for our boys and how hard they played

How can you say that? They held Auburn to 1 TD.Remember our opener last year? This D was definately improved and made the stops when they had to.The LB play was better,Tig Willard was a beast.

Our Linebackers were attacking the ball... The only problem was that the were either running up the D-Lines back or trying to take on a lead blocker. Brent will get it fixed.

The ESPN pundits said OU's D is faster, more aggressive now.
Sep 4, 2012, 1:48 PM
|
|
For whatever their opinons are worth, it was two pundits (can't remember which) on either ESPN's BCS Countdown or ESPN's CFB Daily on Monday. They didn't mention Venables but reading between the lines, I found it worrisome.
I didn't see the OU-UTEP game (and UTEP isn't exactly a world-beater), so I can't vouch for their opinions, but OU's D did hold UTEP's offense scoreless and only gave up one big play. (UTEP scored a TD on a blocked punt return.) http://scores.espn.go.com/ncf/boxscore?gameId=322452638
Hopefully BV gets the D fixed by the time they head to Tally.
