For those saying Cade will not be a 1st round pick ........

how can you tell after so few games as a starter with less than stellar receivers?
Anyone remember Joe Burrow his junior year at LSU. I thought he was pretty ordinary ....... 222 passing yards a game ......... 57.8 % completion rate ....... 16 - 5 TD's - Interceptions. I actually thought he was worse than that, but I remember him being a decent runner and tough kid. It was amazing what several more mature receivers and another year of experience did for him.

He may make it to the NFL but so far, he doesn’t have the “it” factor and leaves skit to be desired in his decision making and ball security. He hasn’t played up to his star rating at all.

I think you are missing my point. Did you have the same assessment of Burrow during the first 5 games of his junior year ....... not his sophomore year?

The problem is the compare. Trevor would have gone around 1 after his Freshman year. Cade doesn’t look like a first rounder right now. The compare for me is Bo Nix. He had flashes at Auburn but was not consistent. A couple of years later he looks a whole lot better.

There are countless QBs who have shown the development curve. From a shaky new QB to an NFL pick.
QB isn’t typically like WR where a highly ranked guy comes in and immediately show’s consistent, high level play. Trevor was an exception to the rule - not the norm.
Dabo has said repeatedly Cade will be a different QB as a senior than he is now. That’s common sense.
Just because Cade hasn’t shown an “it” factor with less than a season of playing time, that doesn’t mean he won’t show “it” by his Jr or Sr years… heck he was improving a ton before last Saturday.
He’s shown skill. He can place the ball well and make a ton of throws. But then he makes rookie mistakes or loses focus. He OBVIOUSLY can do it, he just needs to do it every game game and have that hyper focus and vision on every play. He still gets antsy and makes very questionable throws and last week was not seeing his receivers at all. My vantage point is up at booth level and you can see WRs running routes. This has been a focus point of mine ever since folks started calling out WRs last year, but the reality is we suffered last year from a QB with terrible field vision, no confidence, and questionable decision making and accuracy.
On nearly every play, even last year, there are options available downfield. DJ was really bad once his primary target breaks down, and Cade is going in and out of that issue as well.
He IS getting better. Clearly. Wake was a set back , but it’s not time to say the kid will never develop into an NFL pick. He has the skill, just needs his head to follow.

Excellent assessment. The only comment I would add is (and I said it all last year), is that Cade should have been getting more playing reps (that counted) all season long. Was he ready to take over, no, not at all. But it was a coaching blunder to not have played him a lot... especially in our early games. He would have been much further along this season.

at all. Right now he's not a draftable quarterback. Maybe in a year or two.. we will see.
One thing I feel like he's always going to have working against him is his arm strength. It's OK, but not at the level of most high draft picks.

Cade will be fine, but he does need weapons

and support. Moore, Wesco and Bentancur should be the weapons, but we have to hit the portal and get him some protection up front.

How about Joe Burrow at OH St

Our fan base got spoiled by Trevor. Every team in the country wants a Trevor but there is only one every few years. That is why they are called generational talents. Experience for a QB is almost more important than talent.

Trevor came in with the same pressure of fans wanting him to be the next Deshaun Watson. He lived up to the pressure and hype, and now we expect every QB to do the same.

I don't like this argument. A college gets a generational player like Trevor once in a blue moon. But NFL QBs at his level or better come out pretty frequently. In the last 3 years, we've had: Trevor, Burrow, Hurts, Herbert, Tua, Stroud, Howell, Fields, and Purdy. Trevor might end up being a generational QB, but right now, most of those QBs have been better than Trevor thus far in their careers.

I can see Cade as 1st round pick in the 2026 NFL draft after 2.5 more years starting for Clemson.

He might grow into an NFL pick, but I do not believe for a minute that he will be first round.
In order to make rational assessments, one must use the evidence in front of them - and be willing to adjust that assessment in the face of new evidence.

That's because you have no idea what Cade will look like in 2.5 years. I don't know either, but I do know there are a lot of 1st round QB picks that were not on the radar after even their sophomore year. There are also a lot of 1st round picks that never played significant minutes until their senior year ...... Mac Jones to name a recent one.

Cade will have his best game at Miami IF the coaches have him properly prepared and I think they will.
