Everyone on here needs to show some patience with the bullpen.

Let's pull the reins on the bullpen overreactions.
Sunday was a good learning experience for the bullpen and coaches. We were 2 outs from a no-hitter and a run rule game. No one in the bullpen was ready to have their number called and it showed when they were. They had already mentally packed their bags in the 7th. Better to have this happen in April than early June. Coaches probably overreacted with all the wholesale changes as well. Gordon was not available on Sunday or that game probably ends in the 9th.
Last night Garris was electric and was on pace for what was close, to an immaculate inning. The HR ball is on the coaching staff. You have a batter 0-2 and you call an elevated fastball. The 8th fastball of the 10 pitches he had thrown to that point. Bury something in the dirt or off the plate. No need to be in the zone at all right there.
Something is going on with Hughes, I'm not sure what it is. Could just be confidence or inability to locate, but he has to get it figured out. You don't move Gordon to the back end unless you have zero confidence in Hughes right now.
Outside of Sunday, Clayton and Mahlstedt have been really, really good. We get Smith back in the starting rotation for the Pitt series. That would allow Marchal, a veteran arm, back into the bullpen. Tittsworth has electric stuff for a freshman, but h needs to hit the zone more consistently. We need another left handed pitcher to round the bullpen into form. Reid could become the long reliever guy and Leguernic could easily become a lefty/lefty specialist. If he can land his fastball consistently his slider would be unhittable from the left side.

Jacob McGovern could also contribute as a LH out of the bullpen. He has done well in his 2 opportunities.

Agree 100%
Our team ERA is 18th in the nation after yesterday's game. Its not always pretty, but that is better than 95% of teams. Only one school has a sub-3.00 ERA (Arkansas). I think it would help people to keep that in perspective.

The win-loss record can be misleading though. The reason the bullpen has so many wins is because they blow the starting pitchers wins and then the offense comes back to save the day. So the bullpen gets the win, but they didn’t do well. Forget about stats there’s no denying when you watch game after game that our bullpen struggles to consistently throw strikes and get outs. I’m not panicking though because I think the coaches need to use different more capable guys more than they have

You are easily the worst baseball poster on here. You have no opinions about sports, just people. Nobody cares what you think. Leave the baseball discussion for those that know the game

I agree the win-loss record of the bullpen is irrelevant. It has more to do with the starters not going 5 innings more times than not and our offense coming to life later in the game this season.
Sure our bullpen will struggle sometimes. There is a reason those guys aren't starters. They aren't as good. But I would argue our bullpen is way better than our competition's bullpen almost every game so far this season.

We’ve had far too many close call games with a straight number followed by a crooked number. Elite pitching wins championships. We aren’t there yet. We don’t even have a solid ace. Our best guy is around 3.50 era. Not many teams without an ace with around 1.00 era have won a title. Great pitching overcomes great hitting most of the time. We need that Maddox style starter with a Eckersly style closer. Heck, a Hoyt Wilhelm style closer. Some of these 12-10 games we are winning are against sub .500 teams. We won’t last in the post season with our rotation and bullpen.

Right now Gordon looks to be the closer. The rest of the bullpen are pitch to contact types or are inexperienced. Hopefully Belanger can get things tightened up because scouting is probably starting to catch up. Definitely need better bullpen to support the hitting as we head towards the postseason.

Also, let’s be honest how empty Lee left this roster. Coach See wasn’t making much progress developing the pitchers they did bring in. In my view we are well ahead of schedule, but the hitting is carrying the bullpen and that could be the Tigers weakness later in May when we face better pitching. I’m ready to accept the pitching may take until year 3 to come into form.
