It's a long season.
However, very impressive turnaround so far under Elko.

Elko is already being considered for other coaching jobs, like Michigan State. So, yes, he is good.

But they have a talented team this season. Nobody would beat them turning it over like we did.

... On paper, Duke is not talented. Two 4 stars compared to 56 Clemson 4 & 5 stars, and Notre Dame with fifty to sixty 4 & 5 stars (recruited 2020-23). So again, it's coaching. Not player talent.

Personally, I think it's a combination of the two. They've hit on some players in recruiting, utilized portal, and have a TON of upperclassmen starting.
https://www.ourlads.com/ncaa-football-depth-charts/depth-chart/duke/90406The most respected source for NFL Draft info among NFL Fans, Media, and Scouts, plus accurate, up to date NFL Depth Charts, Practice Squads and Rosters.
Having an older team is definitely an underrated thing and when you mix it with good coaching you can pull upsets and beat teams that technically pull in better recruits on paper. Of course, it's not the end all be all but it certainly helps when facing talented but young teams.
Honestly, if we consider the teams Clemson has lost or had problems with in the past years...even in the DW and TL times...they've typically been teams heavy with upperclassmen.

glennjamin182® ... No argument. Older teams can be hard to beat. True with Power Rangers and old Mormons on BYU and Utah. Duke is improved with handful of Portal transfers, and Elko has outcoached Dabo over 4 games. But macro picture, Dabo is miles ahead.

Head coach? No. Offensively? Again, I’d say no. Defensively? No. Special teams? Yes.

Ok, name me everyone on staff that would be chased by D1 programs besides Elko. Maybe their DC but he is an Elko disciple and this is Elko defense.
Duke has a QB that will be top 10 recruit. Their players believe and are well coached. That said, Cutcliffe was a good coach and always found diamonds in the rough, not sure why he slipped so bad last couple years.
But a better staff, I doubt it highly. Is our staff full of D1 coaches, No! But we have 3-4 that would get hired by D1 schools but we definitely could upgrade a few spots too.

GR, Eason, Reed, and Morris all would easily be hired by a D1 school. Wes was on NFL staff as analyst for Andy Reed and BV wanted him so hecwould be hired but not as DC likely yet.
There are a couple I would replace but not naming names. Duke staff better, not!

If Morris had any decent D1 offers the last few years, he would have taken them instead of coaching high school ball and working as an analyst at USF and Clemson.
Wes worked for Bruce Arians, not Andy Reid.

I’d say no based on the prevent to win defense. You can’t just rush 3 and give the QB all day to throw or run for a long 1st down.

18 returning starters and a possible 1st round qb from a 9-4 team makes you a good team. We are young at key positions. We will be just fine. Duke will drop off.
