Do you remember your first Clemson game?
Aug 12, 2012, 12:45 PM

For me, It was the '99 Marshall game. Yes, Bowden's first as well. I remember being 5, sitting on the the wooden part of the hill between the west endzone stands and the north lower level. The cannon nearly made me pee myself and I remember being introduced to a variety of colorful language while leaving the stadium because as we all remember: the kicker lost the game.

next week we beat Virginia at home. We, also, beat TCU at home that year but lost a close one to Carolina in Columbia, 16-17. The following year Howard's Rock was placed on the hill, and the first game of 1967 the tradition of touching the rock began.

Not my first game, but the first I really remember. I was a freshman, and that was one of the loudest sporting events I have ever heard....the student section was crazy. We were terrible that year, only winning 3 games, I think. But we played FSu close and only lost by a TD...

1972 Clemson homecoming vs Virginia

Mom and Dad got my brother and me out of school in Allendale County and we made the 3 1/2 hour trek to Clemson for Tigerrama in the stadium. It was my first time in Clemson. Tigerrama was always best outside under the cool, fall stars--I hate it inside these days. We had ice cream somewhere downtown(???). It was a pretty fall day on Saturday. I remember seeing the floats on Bowman Field like these people did.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgxndJOxxlM
We parked on Bowman Field back then. We also really had a tailgate picnic. Tailgating was not elaborate back then. Cold chicken and the fixings. Clemson won it and the Siren sounded. it was magical. At 7 years old I was in love with Clemson--the best place in the world!

The '72 game with UVA was certainly not my first Clemson game, but I have some fond memories of that game. It was one of the few games we won during that period under Hootie Ingram.
I had been a Clemson grad for 5 years and served 4 of those years as an Air Force officer. I was working for a textile company at the time, and my boss, the company president, had been a great Clemson player during the 50s.
My younger brother was a student and got me good tickets on about the 40 yd line in one of the lower rows. That had been an extremely busy week at work, and I wanted to get away from the job and relax. As my wife, 3 year old daughter, and I were waiting for the game to start, my boss and his family settled in next to us. Ironically, his seats were next to ours, and we all had a great time.
It was a good game, and we won. The UVA QB was George Allen, Jr, the son of the great NFL coach, who later became a senator and governor, I think.
During the game, my 3 year old was filmed cheering after a TD. That small clip became a part of a college football film, and she was shown around the country on TV for the next year or so.
One of Clemson's stars of that game was a RB named Wade Hughes. I ran into Wade at his business in Mechanicsville, VA in 2011. We had a nice visit, and I dropped in again on him this past July. Wade still loves Clemson but has no respect for Hootie.

Aug 12, 2012, 3:50 PM

was that I was a Terp fan and my father who is a Clemson alum was going with a bunch of his Clemson buddies that lived in the Baltimore/Washington area. I was dying to go to my first college football game but was told the only way I could go with them was if I rooted for the Tigers. I agreed and the rest is history.

Mom said I couldn't go, but I went ahead and jumped in the car with friends.
OMG... so worth the 9 weeks of grounding I got when I got home.
Of all my teenage disobedient actions this was one of the FEW that was worth it.

I was 2, I don't remember that one. The first one I can recall was a Clemson/Georgia game in the mid '70's. I know we lost.

My first game was PC vs Clemson in 1956...we went 7-1-2 that year and Frank Howard won our first ACC Championship after the conference was formed. Only loss was to Miami.

I can not remember the year, probably about 1960. Can't remember who we played. I had been brought up as a Tiger and this sealed the deal. What I do remember is I had to wear my Sunday best, along with the little white gloves (but, darn, I was cute,, ) My Dad was in his suit and my Mom in her Sunday suit and hat. I can remember the area where I sat. Everyone was dressed this way.
My, how times have changed, but one thing that has not changed is I am Orange forever.

My first game as a spectator was 1944, as a ninth grader in high school. I remember very little of the game. I do recall, however, that my good friend (now deceased) and I were given tickets on the Carolina side, located at about the forty yard line, by a local attorney in our home town. I believe Clemson won 20-13. My next game attendance was in 1945 at Clemson, against Pensacola Naval Station, that was won by the Tigers 7-6. I think I am correct in recalling that Butch Butler, although not then having been discharged from the Navy, played as the Clemson punter in that game. I am a proud Clemson graduate (Class of 1950) and would be pleased to know if there are any TigerNetters with an earlier game attendance than mine of 1944. If so, I think we might have some fond memories to relate.

Georgia 2003, my freshman year. We got beat 30-0 and I got sun poisoning, but that was also the year of 63-17 so it equaled out.

It sounds like we even sat in the same section; I was a couple of years older though.

Clemson vs. Georgia 87. Great game that ended with a long field goal for the win for the Tigers.
Great game and I fell in love with the Tigers that day.

Tigers got smoked. Even in a loss, I fell in love with Clmeson and I was hooked. Selecting Clemson for grad school was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
