He reportedly is deciding between a path to the NFL or transferring to another CFB team. He may make an NFL roster, though as a punter. However, it won’t be FSU …maybe MSU …

Here is what I am hearing down here.

1. If Rodemaker performs well in the next 2 (or 3) games, then Norvell will not go to the portal. He would feel confident with Rodemaker as the starter next year, being backed up by a redshirt freshman who he is very high on and a true freshman who is a highly recruited (5 star) QB.
2. If Rodemaker struggles in these next two games, then there is a difference of opinion.
A. Norvell will look to the portal to bring in a 1 and done guy.
B. Norvell will not look to the portal, but will stand pat.
Rationale for Option B:
1. Bringing in a new guy might upset the chemistry he has built, in the QB room specifically. Bringing in a QB to become the starter is different than brining in any other position. All those guys know that there is playing time, significant playing time, for several people at that position.
2. Look at the talent being lost this year. While FSU won't fall off the cliff and struggle to become bowl eligible, it won't be UGA and just reload and compete for the national championship either. 10-2 will probably be a very good year. FSU has a top 5, or better, recruiting class this year, but it will take two or three years of that level recruiting to be at the level of being pre-season top 5 every August. So, go with the three guys you have now and let them battle for playing time.
3. Past history shows that Norvell won't look to the portal. After Travis' sophomore year, where he became the clear starter, Norvell had a decision to make. Travis was a servicable QB, but hadn't proven that he was going to become an elite QB. Norvell had a decision to make. If I bring in a guy to compete with him, will I destroy his confidence? Will he transfer? Can I find anybody who is clearly better than him? Is it worth the risk? He made the decision to stick with Travis. He'll do the same thing with Rodemaker.
What do I think he will do if Rodemaker struggles? I don't know. I would guess he will not go to the portal, but will open the competition up in the Spring and Summer and let the guys battle it out.
The situation would be much simpler if Rodemaker throws for 300 yards and 3 TDs this Saturday, wouldn't it? 😁
