Djs improvement?

What do we have to base that improvement off of? Georgia Tech Furman and Louisiana tech. Well It’s good to see people get behind DJ. But how can anyone say he’s improved when he hasn’t seen a good defense yet? Ok he’s looked not great against GT and had a really good half against Furman and looked ok against Louisiana tech although at times Djs passes was very high at times and his running is slow.
So my thoughts is this we got Wake forest and NC st up next. After those games we will then know how good Dj is and if he’s getting Clemson to the playoffs! Sure he’s improved but we ain’t played anyone yet so we don’t have anything to base his improvement off of.

Georgia would have done something similar to us yesterday.

The improvement is based on him going through his progressions, running more effectively, and being more accurate with his throws. You can judge that regardless of the opponent. To what level he has improved will depend on whether he is able to do these things against superior opponents.

I think it is unrealistic to not compare his improvement to his standing last year .He had only 1,752 passing yards in 10 games while averaging 5.7 yards per pass attempt. He freezes up under pressure and his down-for-down accuracy to every level of the field is not that great. Before we can can honestly say he has "improved" we're going to have to see a who lot more. Think about it. He finished 127 out of 130 of quarterbacks in the nation. If he does anything better it will be an "improvement." Those are the cold, hard facts.

I suspect he will improve a lot when the pass blocking improves, when Shipley doesn't flop in front of a blitz, receivers stop dropping balls etc.
Might want to ask when the pass defense will get respectable too.
Btw, I don't think we will be hearing anyone calling for Klubnik anytime soon.

When the training wheels come off and he's got to perform at top speed, he'll wobble along against Wake and drive right into the ditch against NC State, which will by far be the best D he'll have seen.

Don't need anything else because it's extremely obvious that he's throwing the ball much better this year and he looks better in the running game.
The problem is that he still doesn't handle pressure very well and our OL is not very good at giving him a clean pocket.
The OL is going to be a serious problem when we play State. DJ will take the majority of the blame though, of course.

So you asked what do we base his improvement off of to then go an say he has improved. Got it.
If you believe that DJ is the singular thing that is going to keep us from the playoffs this year you clearly haven’t watched the games or don’t fully understand what you are seeing.

Well, if you base it off the numbers alone, after 3 games he is 55th in QB efficiency with a rating of 144+. He has thrown 5 TDs and 1 interception. He is 55 of 88, or 62.5%. To be fair, that number should be more like 65 of 88, or over 70%. He has thrown for 662 yards, or 223/game. And that is with defenses that have emphasized stopping the run and making him throw to score.
I don't know where he was last year after 3 games and having played one superior defense (UGa) and 2 bad ones (GT and SCSU) but would hazard a guess his numbers now are much higher.
If you want to add what you can see with your eyes, I don't think there is any real doubt he looks improved. He is not throwing the ball at the feet of receivers or 6 feet over their heads. He is reading the RPO better. He is checking down on receivers better. He has dropped a lot of deep balls right on target. He has been somewhat elusive in running. A good number of yards last night were gained after faking out defenders.
I really don't see how any objective person would not agree he is improved. Hopefully it will continue, although the competition will stiffen. Hopefully now that he knows the job is solidly his, which it clearly is despite the naysayers who seem to have a near personal grudge against him, he will play loose and with even more confidence.

DJ has made some outstanding throws this year.

He didn’t make those throws last year, regardless of opponent.
It’s not like he has been throwing to receivers with 5-10 yards of separation in our three games so far. The WRs have been well covered for the most part.
