When’s the last time Clemson took a kickoff back for a TD?

The last one I can recall was Sammy his freshman year at Maryland (2011). Am I missing one??? If I am dang we’re due for one. Anyways Go Tigers!!!

Yup 2011.

Since Dabo Swinney was hired as the full-time head coach of Clemson football, the Tigers have had just three players return a kick off for a touchdown – Sammy Watkins in 2011, Andre Ellington in 2010, and C.J. Spiller had four in 2009.

It might be a long time.


"Before the start of the 2018 season, the NCAA implemented a new kickoff rule that states that a kickoff returner may signal for a fair catch anywhere within the 25-yard line for a touchback that results in the drive starting at the 25."

"The rules committee suggested this rule tweak with the goal of increasing the number of touchbacks, which in turn would hopefully decrease the number of injuries that occur during kick returns."

Why do players do this, what’s the reasoning for being in such a rush to drop the football ??

After carrying to the ball for 60, 70 yards or whatever, it's so heavy that you're eager to get rid of it. ;)

Most kick-offs are not returned at all these days.

If a kickoff doesn’t go deep into the EZ it’s usually because the kicker is “skying” the ball on purpose.
