or make the tournament and win 1, or 2 games? I guess we'll find out in a few weeks.

Short of a Final 4, I think we need a change. Doesn't have to be any animosity (JK would shart his shorts), agree to part terms, and leave out the F word (fired). What decent, up & coming coach wouldn't jump at a shot to coach a team knowing that he has 14 years to just be average?

I realize that if we get to Sweet 16 there's no chance Brad doesn't coach CU next year. Of course, other teams may come calling...not much of a chance there either.

Nothing Publicly

And, as far as I can tell, doesn't appear to be any serious insiders on this board related to the ball program (though I'd LOVE to see a great source appear like we have for football).

Also, I think expectations/takes like FINAL FOUR OR YOU'RE FIRED are dumb. IMO a win would do something to indicate progress - Sweet 16 is probably the ceiling for this team.

That said, an embarrassing one and done loss might be enough to want to part ways (especially if we look like what we did against BC).

If I had to put a guess, Brownell is probably back for another year and gets a small extension. However, an embarrassing first round exit might be enough to pull the plug.

Rad pulled the plug on Leggett despite making the tourney in baseball...would Neff do the same to Brad? Guess we'll see pending how we do in the tourney.

Heck, Neff might wanna do what Long Beach State did to see if that sparks anything - they fired the coach before the conference tournament but allowed the coach to finish it out....then they won the whole darn thing and are now on their way to the big dance!

No. Nothing he said stated an explicit goal. The “tournament was the goal” and now “you’re moving the goalposts” are clear signs of a pro-Brownell shill scock. The goal is always the tournament. The points he made were that he thought we should have gotten a bid and that he was bringing Brownell back because of the clear direction of the program. Finishing with a worse conference place and record and making the tournament (when he has already argued we should have been in) do not demonstrate that improving direction. He also stated in correspondence that he thought PJ Hall returning was also significant in his decision and that it created the opportunity for a special season. Sixth in the ACC isn’t special. Losing in the first round of the ACC tourney isn’t special. Will Neff decide that anything Brownell did this season was special enough to warrant his return? Neff, by his prior inaction, has put himself between a rock and a hard place. Brownell’s supporters will view his release as a betrayal since he made the tourney. But the vast majority of the fanbase will lose their sh*t if he is given any meaningful extension or as soon as he reverts to the mean next season. Which is almost guaranteed since he’s returning <35% of his offense. The second lowest of his tenure. The lowest was the worst season of his tenure and it is more than correlation.

I'm sorry but this has to be dumbest possible Brownell take. I want to move on from the guy because what's going to happen is we're going to lose game 1, but you cannot fire him on the following only the second elite 8 in program history.

I guess you missed the "I think" part...it was said tongue in cheek since

there's nothing in the previous years that would lead anyone to believe we could make the final 4 or elite 8. Winning 1 game would be a significant improvement over all the previous years, sans one.
