Dabo uses the portal now better than you think.

Since the portal began coaches haven't had to 'cut,' players from the roster. That's bad stuff and causes hard feelings. If the player was forced to transfer he would have to spend an entire year of his life working with the new team while waiting to play. It develops their skill but often with programs loaded with talent which failed to develop as expected, both coaches' and players' expectations, a player almost waste a year.

Now, a player can be advised of his position in the rotation and make the decision with the coach only telling him the truth. It remove some of the coach's guilt and lets the player decide without the penalty of losing a year waiting.

Dabo is a very kind and loving person, polite to everyone not named Tyler and I'm certain this made Dabo's decision to recruit someone for his position easier. According to Dabo he views these players as family and treat them such. I've seen no reason to dispute his word on this. I still don't think Dabo loves seeing one of 'his boys,' leavet but it's gotta be easier when the kid can play somewhere the following year.

Dabo has traditionally been one of the best at culling through the herd of misfits, selecting the best players for the team and those who fit in with Clemson culture. Frankly, if we didn't offer them when they left high school those in the portal who do, probably aren't looking for greener pastures. One thing is for sure, if a player is looking for a team which desperately needs him for his talent and skill and one which doesn't care how he does in class or in town on the weekends he isn't good fit for Clemson anyway.

Imo, Dabo is making the most of what the portal has to offer Clemson.
