People keep posting Dabo's record vs. top 25 as

an argument for why he shouldn't be at Clemson and I started thinking that the law of averages pretty much dictates that most good coaches' records are inevitably going to hover around .500 vs. the top 25. So I compared some widely-considered good coaches' records since '11 (the first year we won 10 or more) (this is records vs. teams that finished ranked, not necessarily were ranked at the time):
Nick Saban (inarguably the gold standard): 9-3 (.75)
David Shaw: 9-3 (.75) (of course, beating RANKED teams is not his problem...)
Steve Spurrier: 8-4 (.66)
Les Miles: 8-6 (.57)
Jimbo Fisher: 4-3 (.57)
Mark Helfrich (1 season): 1-1 (.50)
Dabo: 5-6 (.45)
Chris Peterson: 1-2 (.33)
Mark Richt: 4-9 (.31)
Will Muschamp (IMO not a great coach but he was on our shortlist when TB left): 3-10 (.23)
Gary Patterson: 2-7 (.22)
Mack Brown: 2-8 (.20)

beating Clemson regularly is the pinnacle of success for Spurrier at $CU.
No conference championships and no BCS Bowl appearances.
Spurrier has effectively become a reincarnate of Tommy Bowden.

Sounds very similar to Spurrier at $CU.

it's that simple
think what you want, but i'm one of the few that haven't "adjusted the goal posts" based on what dabo has or has not done..........it's stayed consistent and he's YET to do that.

crapping the bed on the big stage so often and being owned by the coots is too much for me to swallow.
We lost to two good teams. But the fact our head coach is obviously intellectually outmatched by the coot coach is hard to accept.
But, at the end of the day, we are too good to talk about firing Dabo.

But there are similarities as you suggest.

Those coaches first few years on the job. Dabo in his 5th season as a coach is being compared to a lot more tenured coaches here in most cases. For never having a head coach position, he's doing one heck of a job
