Coots again go back JC route to fix DB recruiting woes

Jan 9, 2015, 9:57 AM

Guessed it was just a matter of time till they went back to the JC quick fix route. Scratch DB Mark Fields off their list.

All that's going to do is hurt them in the long run (3-4) years. They think its a quick fix to their problems, but it won't be. I look forward to handful of 6-7 win seasons in the near future for them. Reality and mediocrity is alive and well in Cootville.

The only way they're going to be able to stay with us is to get free-agent recruits!

Korncoot more hits:

Junior college safety waiting on USC offer
By Phil Kornblut

DB Toure Boyd (6-1 193) of Chaffey JC, CA never thought he'd get the chance to return to the Southeast to play college football. That opportunity is now just a phone call away from USC and it could come as early as Friday.

Boyd was contacted by USC secondary coach Grady Brown earlier this week and his transcript is being vetted by USC admissions. If all checks out, and Boyd said it should, he's expecting an offer from the Gamecocks, and that could happen Friday. And that could lead to a quick commitment.

"I'd have to consult with my family but I'm pretty sure it's going to be a go," Boyd said. "To me, I feel like, why not? Even if there is stuff for me to look at and stuff for me to weigh out, I feel like this is an opportunity that came out of nowhere for a reason. I feel like there's a reason that it came, so I feel like there aren't many questions to ask. If there's a good opportunity in front of me, I should take it."

Boyd grew up in Birmingham and would have attended Hoover High School had he not moved to Rancho Cucamonga, CA at the age of 14. He still has family in Birmingham, including his father.

He was set to sign with Boise State out of high school but the NCAA flagged his transcript for too many online courses forcing him to junior college. He played his first season at the College of the Desert and this past season at Chaffey. He will have three years to play two.

"I've always loved the SEC," Boyd said. "I've always thought it was the superior conference. I can't pass up something like that, a chance to get to the league."

Boyd has offers from Utah, Arizona, Washington State, Southern Miss, Georgia State and Texas State. He has taken an official visit Southern Miss and is scheduled to visit Georgia State January 16th. That visit could change to USC once the offer comes ore it could be scheduled for later in the month.

Boyd played cornerback this past season but said Brown likes him as a safety. This season he had 80 tackles with 2 interceptions, 10 passes broken up, 2 forced fumbles, 2 recovered fumbles and 4 blocks. He also scored a touchdown.

I think it says they know they were weak this year. Can't say it's wrong? Oregon has always gone with a good many juco's and maybe National title now. We'll see.
