i can really relate to this story, as i remember nearly every detail from my first (and only to this point) trip to omaha. driving 18 hours through the night to arive just in time for a quick meal at zesto's before we played tech in 2006. i remembered thinking how awesome it was to be in rosenblatt after watching countless games on tv from home. when we scored 8 in the 8th to beat GT, i still remember it as a top 2-3 moments as a tigerfan. i believe it was d-lo who hit a home run that inning that gave us the lead, it landed a few rows from us and i thought it does not get any better than this.
through all of the ups and downs of being a tiger fan, it is memories like that that reduce some of the sting from the losses. one day, i'll be out to TD ameritrade and watch leggett and the tigers bring home the trophy. there is something about omaha and i cant wait to get out there again.
Given the unique situation in Omaha I truly do not believe there is another event like it in sports whether it is amateur or professional. I don't know of any other event that is as supported by the locals as the CWS and yet has fans traveling from across the country even in years when their team doesn't make it. I DO have problems accepting the loss of Rosenblatt I am told the event has survived it to make it a great experience. I suggest that any sports fan try to make it there once in their lifetime to experience it and enjoy it themselves.
