Conspiracy about UGA - grab your tin foil hats

Lack of media coverage, they are running an offensive scheme from the 80s, need for a change to be competitive at the highest level... what’re the odds that UGA is installing a more modern offense and are trying to keep it under wraps for the season? Alabama came out a few years ago with a modernized offense and it took folks a little bit to catch up. Same with LSU in 2019. What’re the odds that this is the season for UGA to join the rest of college football?
3 more weeks, have to find something to get through the next 3 weeks... why not a wild conspiracy theory?

Their OC is a pass first guy…. This isn’t a conspiracy…it’s probably a fact that with Daniels they hope to open it up….
The question is …can Kirby keep his hands off… or will he revert to 80’s offense at the first sign of trouble….

Coach PJ secretly hired as an analyst or “running coordinator” that’s what they called that kid that turned around LSU, right? Passing coordinator.
All joking aside, I am curious to see if UGA stays stuck in the 80s offensively or if they join the party. Hope not, could be a long day for them...

Not as strong on the conspiracy side of it, but I do think they have been intentionally quiet and focused on the first game of the season. Honestly, I feel they may be preparing as OSU did. Also, kudos to them for no players being arrested over the Summer.

My assumption is that the lack of media coverage is to simply to keep the offense under wraps and not provide film to us. Probably playing Washington and Gilbert at the same time, as well as a bit more of a spread concept without really running Daniels too much. Not a bad idea, why give away free tape?

Pretty good philosophy for the 1990s. Not so much in 2021. College football is a media machine. No more offseason. Players need exposure to maximize NIL. Coaches need to balance competing interests of player/team availability and “keeping things under wraps”. Close it down and watch top tier talent commit to other programs. Dabo has done a really good job on this front.

Yes, bad philosophy for a season, decent move when you are disguise your roster and playbook for game 1 only.
I’m sure the media isn’t happy and lord help Kirby if they lose, but I’m thinking their brand will survive.

True - it’ll be interesting to see how it plays out. Rumor mill is that Gilbert might have some academic issues. If UGA loses by 10+, is Kirby on the hot seat? I could see it. Even though by most standards he has done well.

Not looking good for Gilbert, but oh well…potentially losing their center would be even bigger news, maybe keeping the o-line shuffle under wraps is part of their plan.
I would love to see Kirby take a fat L and immediately be on the hot seat. Even a close loss puts him in the cross-hairs. These UGA fans are starving for a championship and it’s hard to make excuses when they bring in top recruiting classes every year.
After the opener, UGA’s schedule isn’t extremely tough, so they’ll still be in the mix, but if they drop another or lose in the SEC championship it will be hilarious to hear all of the Kirby Must Go chatter. That guy is a pud.

Their situation at C does seem to be tenuous at best. I watched Kirbys post scrimmage interview. Seems like they’re trying to figure that out.

Yeah, you nailed it. He looked like they aren’t set at all. If the starting center can’t go, that is HUGE. Having to shift Sayler or put the 3rd stringer in is going to really be disruptive. Breese and TyD must be licking their chops. Maybe a bigger loss than Pickens? I know they have the pick of the HS o-line litter every year, but center is such a unique position. A few wonky snaps here and there can kill drives and stall out a game plan.

Let’s see how it plays out over time. So far, GaTech has increased media coverage and given access of media data (eg photos, videos, etch to players to the tune of TBs. It appears other programs are following that lead. Additionally, at Clemson, Dabo opened up the practice to all periods instead of just the first five and did it for two practices in a row. Correlation isn’t causation; however, there has been a shift in modus operandi that is consistent with this logical delineation.
So... let’s wait and see.

That is a real concern. Kirby brought in Todd Monken to be his OC last year. Before that Monken was the OC for Cleveland Browns in 2019. Nick Chubb gained over 1400 yds that year. He was at Tampa Bay in 2018 where they lead the lead in Passing yds and finished 3rd in total offense.
He knows what he's doing and does it well. I doubt he's going to an 80's offence.

It's a good strategy to not divulge your plan!
However, you still have 18-23 y.o. dudes who have to execute it. All of which are not going to the NFL. Meaning, if Clemson has enough advantages in one on one match ups or can exploit something about what they want to do with some success, it may just blow up in their face. The greatest offense I have ever seen in college was 19 LSU. And while we knew what they were going to run pretty much; and do not in this situation. I am not as worried. You have their OC's NFL film and you have the pressure of having to execute it in a real pressure situation. We likely recruited a bunch of their WR's and TE's(or maybe not) but we won't go into this as blind as you might think despite what Georgia "is not saying"!
