ESPN revising history on the Woody Hayes punch?

Their blurb says “On this date: Hayes throws the infamous punch - On December 29, 1978, Ohio State coach Woody Hayes didn't take kindly to his team being taunted and lashed out by punching a Clemson player.”

I’ve never heard this take on the incident. Seemed like to me he just lost his cool when Bauman intercepted the pass and he realized he was going to lose the game. Anyone ever heard of this supposed “taunting”?
