KornCOOT's report on Giella

May 14, 2014, 10:52 PM

Giella happy with Clemson commitment but will still visit others

By Phil Kornblut

Clemson picked up another big time football commitment Wednesday night as OL Zach Giella (6-6 295) of Augusta announced a pledge to the Tigers. Giella had been favoring LSU until Clemson started moving up on his list in recent weeks. His commitment comes on the heels of one Tuesday night from highly touted defensive lineman Sterling Johnson.

"They have been recruiting me non-stop every day," Giella said of Clemson. "Coach Morris came by twice and I've built quite a relationship with him. And talking with coach Swinney today, I've never felt that kind of love from a coach before."

Giella said another major factor in going with Clemson over LSU and Ole Miss was proximity. "Clemson was my closest one," he said. "It's an hour from my house. Knowing my family can come see me and I can see them, it's just a great feeling to have. And also to play top ball at Clemson and get a great education to go along with it, it's just a great feeling and we are truly happy with our decision."

Giella plays offensive tackle but he can also snap and can play guard. That versatility was big in the eyes of the Clemson recruiters. "They'll be able to put me wherever they need me and that's great to hear," he said. "They are recruiting me as a tackle but the fact that I can snap and I can play guard on both sides, it adds to my stock. We do pretty much the same thing they do in high school. We run a lot of the same offense and it seems like a great fit."

Giella will visit Clemson May 29th and will camp there this summer. Despite the commitment however, he's not shutting down his recruiting. He plans to take all five of his official visits. He was on the phone Wednesday with his LSU recruiter.

"It's going to be a fist fight, that's how the LSU coach put it when I talked to him about it," Giella said. "LSU is not giving up. All the other coaches where sounding like the same way. They are not going to stop recruiting, they are still going to be pushing for me. It's still going to be a battle but I'm going to try to stay committed. "

Giella said three of his official visits will be to Clemson, LSU and Ole Miss. Some of his other offers are USC, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Cal, Duke, Missouri, Miami, Georgia Tech, Michigan and Vanderbilt.

Giella is Clemson's 13th commitment for the 2015 class and the fourth on the offensive line.

His bias is probably multiples worse since his "friend" Pete Yannity was let go from the announcers booth. Only in his report are there mentions of still taking visits... And I'm sure he got the All In/No Visits speech when he spoke to Dabo today, so I'm real skeptical of those comments being accurate...
