All the posts the last few years about Brownell are ( I believe) mostly from folks that are really unfamiliar with our rather dismal basketball history under MANY coaches. Many other coaches have had their " moments" of glory and Coach Brownell has had those as well. The fact is however that they are fleeting no matter WHO the Coach is ! I am 66 yrs old and have fervently followed Clemson basketball for over 50 years. We have had many quality coaches over that time. Coach Brownell qualifies as one of those as well. Call it superstition if you like but there is just " something" about Clemson basketball that is much like the so-called " chicken curse " on Coot fb. We have a few " moments" here and there and we just need to learn to enjoy those times w/o getting too fired up about it being the norm. So go ahead change coaches again if you like but it's simply not going to change anything !!

Finally. Someone with a workable brain makes a legitimate post about Coach BB! I’m 82 and have followed Tiger basketball for sixty plus of those years and there hasn’t very many great years. Coach Foster was a delightful man and I enjoyed every minute I was around him. His teams won about as often as the others. If you didn’t like Coach Ellis you had a Problem. I could never find fault with Shyatt. His teams weren’t very good but which coach had great teams? Purnell I had no contact with and I don’t know many who did. Barnes was the best ever and I was hurt when he left. He was a local boy growing up in Hickory and well respected there. I’ll not get into the Locke years! I even remember the Press Maravich years as a student at Clemson. He had a couple of sons who could play the game!!!!!
I love Clemson basketball. Unlike most of you I haven’t lived a life of no failures and accept basketball at Clemson as a great pastime. Looking forward to the tournament again.
I remember when you couldn’t even buy a ticket! ACC basketball is the best

You, like the OP, are failing to place the coaches in the context of changes in the ACC during his tenure.

You disqualified yourself from having a brain when you said all guns should be banned and then proceeded to brag about how you own more guns than everyone on TNET.

If you really knew anything about our basketball history you’d know what a pathetic shell of itself the ACC is and the Brownell years (especially the later ones) were the time to make a move.

I have also followed for over 50 years and there is something that continues to happen and it's called ACC officials! It's not in every game but it happens when it matters. Just ask Rick Barnes.

Probably the most accurate description of Clemson basketball I have seen on here yet. I am 60 and of the same opinion. The annual outcome is usually disappointing so I have learned to not get too excited early in the year but I have to admit I got my hopes up a little this year when the success carried into January. I have enjoyed watching them play this year. Most of the games have been very entertaining. I don’t have high expectations and just try to enjoy the games. The season isn’t over so we still have some chances. It’s not my job to decide who coaches the team or who plays. It’s my job as a fan to root for whoever is on the court or field. That goes for coaches and players and all sports. Go Tigers!!

Again with the "Clemson basketball has not been good in the past. There is no point in trying to improve the program." Look at Alabama this season.

When I was a student in the early 1980s we admitted that sometimes we attended games to see the other teams/players. Like Virginia with Ralph Sampson, the UNC team with Jordan, Worthy and Perkins, and Maryland with Len Bias. It has everything to do with history. Some of us lived it. Sorry, but it appears this history crap is older than you.

No. Like I said in another poast - I hope we will have success in basketball and would be very happy to see it happen. I just don’t have high expectations for it actually happening because of what I have experienced in my lifetime. I haven’t decided I can’t win the lottery and I still buy tickets but I don’t have a realistic expectation of it happening. I hope our chances of being good in basketball are a little better than that at least.

I’m 61 and a former long time basketball season ticket holder. I understand our history, but that is no reason to accept mediocrity and resign ourselves to a future or repeating that history.
Dabo said it’s only unthinkable if you don’t think it. Or something like that. Lol. If our history is the best we should ever expect then why waste so much money on basketball? Why even try?

Thinking it, hoping for it, and expecting it are all different. I do hope for success in basketball but I don’t expect it. I do hope for playoffs and national championships in football but I don’t expect it.

Where in the hell did you get the idea I’m unhappy? Lol. You couldn’t be more wrong.
Clemson needs to go in another direction and unlike you, I’m not afraid of a change. I believe Clemson can be better.

"Keep Tommy Bowden, we get another coach, 8 or 9 wins a year is still the ceiling for Clemson, what more should you expect?"
In that same vein, Clemson Basketball mediocrity will be the reality, until it isn't.

with the Tates Locke era so I to have loved through the doldrums of Clemson basketball. However, I just don't understand this mentally of oh well we've always been bad so let's accept it. BB might be good guy but he is a mediocre coach at best. Why not keep trying and just maybe we can strike hold like we did with Barnes, and just hope this one stays.

I’m 73 and I agree. Just changing coaches won’t help.

A lot of other things need to change before the coaching will make any meaningful, long-term difference.
It’s not that Clemson can’t attract and hire a good coach.
There are lots of them out there who would come for money, and a promotion.
We’ve had those coaches pass through a couple of times.
But the other things don’t change and Clemson remains Clemson as the coach who we brought in the make a difference sees the writing in the wall and leaves.
I’m totally ambivalent as to retaining or firing Brad Brownell and will remain so as long as the more foundational problems remain.
One thing is certain … I will always pull hard for The Clemson Tigers to succeed.

Us old timers here know that we are not in a rut BECAUSE of our history. History didn’t cause it, but history shows expecting a lot from this program is foolish. Wishing for it is great and I think all true Clemson fans would love to see it. Expecting it just sets one up for disappointment. Based on the graduation date in your profile, you probably weren’t even born when I started wishing for greatness for Clemson, and even witnessed it with the football team in 1981. So you can get out of here with your crap junior.

This is the very definition of a loser mentality. It’s true that we don’t have a great basketball history, but that doesn’t mean we all have to accept mediocrity forever. We need to have championship aspirations but reasonable expectations about getting there — and Brownell honestly hasn’t even met those in his tenure.
The season needs to play out, and there’s still opportunities out there on the schedule, but if Brownell manages to miss the tournament again this year after a 10-1 ACC start, he needs to go.
