Bare Update

Some here may know that I enjoy all my critters (except Coyotes). Lately a bear has been dropping by to say hello (and tear down my brid feeders).
A bear kinda does what ever it wants to.

I put up a motion activated sprinkler; he saw it as a nice shower.
I put up an electric fence with .1 Joules. This is similiar to a dog collar. I have been using these for years with great success guarding my deck feeders from coons and possums.

Bears can raid a hornets nest, so this did not discourage him.
I have upped my game to one that can move 2 Joules through 50 miles. My fence is about 50ft.
Will this encourage him to go up the road to my neighbor's feeders?

I deployed many of those claymores during my year in Viet Nam. The VC were bad to sneak in the wire and turn them around to face the opposite direction. That took a lot of guts!

Thank for your service to our country. IMO LBJ caused a lot of death play politics. At least Nixon took the gloves during the line backer operations.

You were a brave man serving in Vietnam! Thank you.

Bears will go where bears want to... When I was growing up on the farm a couple of bears decided to feast daily in our garden. Dad connected a electric fence charger tied wire run around the garden. Bears paid no attention to his efforts. Since this did not work Dad tied a 110 volt line to the wire and waited for the bear(s) to show up. When he spotted the bears he plug the 110 volt cord into the power outlet. When they approach the wire running around the garden they sense something was different. One touch the wire and got burned. They left the area and did not return.

Reminds me of my father-in-law's corn patch. After planting he bought about a dozen feeder pigs. It didn't take them long to figure out the corn patch location and how to get through the fence. So he put up an electric fence and put it on the highest setting. After the first encounter or two, the pigs would back up about 100 feet and run at the fence as fast as they could run, squealing and screaming as loud as they could. They went through the fence like it wasn't there. I guess they figured a second of pain was worth hours of eating pleasure.
