I've been wanting Cole to start for 2 years now, and finally I get to see if it was worth the wait. Personally, I still think Morris and Dabo never saw past Boyd's "cannon" arm to see just how talented Cole really is. We will see. Tick-tock.

I've already been thinking that same thing, folks asking why wasn't Cole playing before now. If he is that much better than Watson for the coaches to say that the QB job is definitely his to lose. And Watson entered school early to try and take the job. Cole will play like a starter I do believe. Hey, he caused the Swag to get himself run off b/c even he saw the writing on the Football that said, I'm Cole Stouts Football!!!

While I believe Cole is fully capable of leading us to success via his skill set and our offensive system, those of you dismissing Boyd so quickly will feel foolish at many times this season (especially on third and short).

I'm not dismissing Tajh. I'm just a firm believer in Cole.

Also, Stoudt ran the read option in HS.

He came out as a dual threat.
He's not fast but he's shifty.

I agree, esp after Boyd started his career 0-2 against Scar.
Cole-dawg should've started that game in Cootlumbia last year for sure.
Cole Stoudt just sounds like the name of a Clemson QB.
Tajh Boyd sounds like a sex move

Boyd actually played very well last year in Columbia until the 4th quarter, when we'd basically fumbled away too many punt returns to come back without plays of desperation. I would argue that the two interceptions he threw in the 4th basically don't matter, because the earlier fumbles basically left us without enough time to come back.

most of the ACC QB record book. Hasn't lost to a team ranked worse than 12th in two years, has beaten three top ten teams and gave us our only BCS bowl victory. Hard to imagine that the coaches got that call wrong.
Having said that, I'm as optimistic as I've ever been about this QB change. Cole has always been cool as a cucumber when he's on the field. He's shown tremendous maturity as a back-up, both in letting Tajh lead the team and in his tolerance of another player's behavior. Having him declared the starter this early will be a great boost to his focus and confidence, in my opinion. I'm not sure we could ask for a better guy to take the reigns.

The backup QB is always the most popular guy on the team because the starter always gets criticized to holy hellooo.
Anyways, I have a lot of confidence in Stoudt but let's not forget that Boyd was arguably the best QB we've had in our school's history. I think we could potentially compare Boyd & Stoudt to stocks:
Boyd was like a tech stock. Incredible highs and sickening lows. One quarter you would think "how in the heck is this guy even playing college football?" and then two quarters later you're thinking "this guy is a Top 5 pick in the NFL Draft." It was a rollercoaster with him. Fortunately for us, he played good-great far often than he played poorly. Unfortunately some of his worst performances came at the worst time.
Conversely, Stoudt appears like he could be likened to a stalwart type of stock. Consistent gains with lower highs, but higher lows as well. He seems like a guy who's going to be able to keep to the system and execute it exactly how Morris wants it to be executed, which is great. However he does not have the physical ability of Tajh either, which makes it seem likely that he won't give us as many "wow" moments (Zac Brooks wheel route against Georgia; Seckinger wheel vs Syracuse; escaping pressure to fire the ball to Sammy for a first down against UGA; Escaping pressure against Ohio State to get the ball down to the 5 yard line; 50 yard TD run against Ohio State)
I'm a believer in Stoudt, but let's wait to throw dirt on Tajh's grave for a little while, eh? I'm actually still not 100% sure Watson doesn't start pushing Cole for the starting job by the time fall comes around.

He'll have earned it and Tiger fans should get excited.
But I highly doubt he starts.

If Watson starts this year, it'll be because...

Clemson lost a couple of the big earlier games and has decided it would be better to take the risk of playing Watson in order to get him experience as the difficulty of the schedule tapers off. So I'm hoping Watson doesn't start this year, but I can see it happening if Cole and the offense struggles against good teams like UGa and FSU.

I don't know what evidence you've got of Stoudt being better than Boyd, or even that he'll be a good QB. I hope he will, and I think he'll be fine, but I think a lot of Clemson fans are deluding themselves when they say they're not worried about Stoudt. He's got to start the year on the road against UGa and FSU, he's throwing to some unproved WRs (talented though they may be), and the running game features a bunch of unproved RBs. Just being a 5th year guy who has had a high completion percentage in mop up time (when, as I recall, he threw into traffic a lot) isn't enough make me feel better about all that.
Obviously, though, I'd be a lot more suspect if we were throwing another guy with questionable talent and less experience into the fire like this. My optimistic expectations are that Cole can be a guy who will manage games and not lose them for us, and that he'll make a few unexpected plays with his feet. On the other hand, if he struggles against UGa and FSU and we lose both games, I think we'll see Watson take over by mid- season because the schedule gets a little easier and we can afford to break in the QB of the future at that point.

Calling him Peyton as this point is a little premature but, he could possibly be close to that good. He has certainly been patient and kept working as if he was the starter. And I don't think that it could happen for a better Clemson man that he is. And if he comes out and just blows the stat sheets up, I won't be surprised b/c I'm expecting it and pulling for him.
