For promoting from within really show a poster’s provincial unworldly view or high power organizations.
Organizations that don’t offer advancement opportunities and growth from within are culturally bad places to work where your best talent leaves.
Dabo has a known bias to promote people in system, to a fault at times, but over his tenure he has built the best culture program in CFB and he has earned the right to not always get it right.

Latently dig at Dabo for promoting from within? I'd say the mere suggestion that he might fire someone is sheer blasphemy! Until, of course, he does so. Then it's all fine.

Morbid - An equally important pillar of success in the "real world" is not to promote good people beyond their limits or too quickly. A good nurse does not mean they would be good at Chief Nurse. A good cook might not be right for a manager position. A good beat copy might not be ready for the chief position just because it becomes vacant. Sometimes those "good" people are good where they are; sometimes they need more experience before being elevated; and often times they becomes better when learning from different leaders.

College football is a what have you done for me lately business. Maybe the ultimate version of it.
They pay Dabo $11.5M/year to get it right. Doubt that particular contract has a "earned the right to get it wrong" clause.
Riley's a good hire and brought some happy feely vibes.
Yay for that.
I personally dont care who Dabo hires.
I have no idea what makes a good football coach (neither do the vaaaaaaaaaaast majority of fans) and I dont care. Im not paid to care. He is.
And I bet he's got bout 24 months to get back to the big game at least once or the buyout birds are going to start chirping.

Well, those of us who criticized the Streeter hire were right.

Were they tight? Had DJ played like he did his freshman year Streeter would still be out coach. Sometimes things just don’t work out and a change is needed to start with a clean slate and renew energy in the program

Next man up applies to players, not necessarily coaches.

But maybe Dabo thinks because he was the diamond in the rough that was prematurely given an opportunity he was under-qualified for and it turned out great that he needs to give that opportunity to others. He promoted from within with Tony and Jeff and it worked out. He gave it a shot with Streeter and it didn’t, so he went outside again like he did with Venables and Morris. I think the jury is still out on Goodwin. I didn’t like the Streeter and Goodwin promotions and I didn’t like the constant endorsement of DJU when it was obvious his head was no longer in the game. I’d have rather taken our lumps with a half season of Klubnik taking over and let DJU transfer mid season like KB did.
