Does anyone have a link to better scouting on him than he's a dual threat qb and a freshman? I watched some youtube on him but couldn't it just looked like a kid that could run ok and had a strong enough arm to hit a wide open reciever.

Well seeing as though Syracuse was his only Power 5 school offer I wouldnt expect him to be too great of a player.

I think we have different definitions of scouting.

Think Donovan Mcnabb, but slightly ahead of where Mcnabb was in 1996

Are y'all really that high on him?
I could be wrong but I think he had one completion that was thrown more than 15 yards from the line of scrimmage against Wake. His other two plays more than 15 yards were a pass to the HB and a scramble.

I'm kidding. He looks good so far in limited action. Decent arm ,decent scrambler. Will definitely struggle against your Defense. But, we do think we may have a keeper in AJ.

Whew! Thought for a minute you were actually comparing him to McNabb you know, the same McNabb that blistered Clemson in the Gator Bowl...unfortunately, no comparison.

Long doesn't have a supproting cast of players like Malcolm Thomas and Marvin Harrison.

You'll remember the name Steve Ishmael after Saturday night. In fact, it may haunt you.

Your fans couldn't have been any nicer. Very welcoming and hospitable.
I will definitely be making a return trip at some point.

I'm glad to hear it. I expect nothing different from you folks this weekend. The Clemson fans that walked through our tailgate in the Cuse last year were the nicest group of people.

He was the one that had said 33 yard reception. Him and West have never really had good games at the same time though.

100% correct. We haven't had 2 receiver combine for squat. Injuries have killed us with Estime and Broyld both being out. Estime might give it a go Saturday.
Where we are literally the 3rd worst in all D1 is redzone efficiency. Only SMU and UCONN convert less inside the redzone. Thats why this could get ugly Saturday.

as a team. And one of them was by the punter. That may be an issue in the redzone.

Our punter is an athlete...he was a QB in HS. Be prepared for a fake at all times.

Exactly, its been ugly. I really don't see us putting up more than 10 on Saturday. I do think we compare well with NC State, Pitt, and BC to finish the year though. Just have to not get anyone killed Saturday night.

Well, that's not actually true. He had offers from Arizona and UCLA (Arizona according to Rivals and ESPN, UCLA according to ESPN...but honestly who the heck knows, from talking to recruiting people I've learned that kids will just make up offers). He might have received a bit more interest from P5 schools but he was solidly committed to SU early on (he got a Syracuse tattoo on his right bicep before ever signing his LOI) so schools tended to back off.
That said - it's tough to tell with AJ. We like what we've seen of him so far, but it's obviously a super small sample size. And speaking of super small, that's the biggest worry with him. He's not a big kid. He's listed at 6-0, 177, and that is almost certainly dead on. He's small, but he's quick and so far seems to make good decisions. He doesn't have a GREAT arm, but it has looked good enough to make the throws he needs to, and he's shown much better touch on his passes than Terrel Hunt ever has, so in that regard he seems to be an upgrade.
Don't take this as me saying he's the same player - because he's not, obviously - but through two games he looks like a poor man's Russell Wilson. Plays the same kind of game, and he appears to have the same sort of leadership skills. He's a confident kid, but not in an arrogant way (at least so far). He's got moxie, and he looks like he's a smart player. Having a new offensive coordinator who seems happy to open up the playbook a little more has certainly helped, of course, as has the fact that they've been incorporating Steve Ishmael a lot more in the passing game. I don't think Ishmael is going to give you nightmares as another poster suggested below, but he's a very good true freshman receiver who, to my untrained eyes anyway, looks like the best receiver prospect we've had since Mike Williams.
Hopefully that's a little bit of help in terms of getting to know why we're excited about AJ Long going forward. He just looks like he has "it." We will see if the first two games he's played carry over or not, of course.

At least he won't leave much of a divot in the Valley turf when Beasley, Crawford & Jarrett tee off on him.

I'm half kidding. It does get interesting on here though when any viable syracuse strength gets laughed at like a 14.5 point spread is 30. You're not Alabama and we're not wake forest. Love the banter though
