Swinney says it was an "incredibly disappointing day in Raleigh." Incredibly difficult loss in double OT. Proud of effort. Played really poor in some areas. Still had a chance to win. Says credit to players on their will to win.

Swinney says both losses are a few inches, a few plays away. They have to learn how to win those games. Poor discipline. 13 penalties. Hurting team, lot of guys beat up. Coach it long enough, play long enough, you will have some hardship. And that is where they are.

Saying both losses were a few inches away deflects from the issues.

How can Swinney say this one was a few inches, a few plays away? NCS missed 3 field goals? Is that to make him feel better and hope the press isn't tough on him? Delusional.

He said adversity shapes you and grows you, and he has no doubt this team is made of the right stuff and will respond. He is disappointed in this start, but they have been here before. He believes the best moments are ahead of them. Program built through adversity.

Team might be made of right stuff but the playcalling is worse than PeeWee league. 40% completions basically on 2 drives with zero completions on other drives is worse than HS. Seriously my Peewee league played with more discipline.

My kid’s little league baseball team lost every game one season. The coach told them that losing builds character. My son said that he was tired of having good character, he wanted to win.

If you actually listen to the pressers and think David asks tough questions, then there’s nothing anyone can say to you because you’re not living in reality. David never comes close to a tough question.

Who argued anything about Dhood? Sure, listened to them all. What’s it got to do with any #### thing though other than some ahole along with yourself throwing shade at Dhood for no reason? You couldn’t be objective if you tried, sport.

Well let’s see. You responded to a post that said: “ No, I think TNET reporters don’t ask hard questions.” by arguing with him and saying for him to support his claim.
I then stated a fact that is 100% true, and if you think otherwise you aren’t living in reality. If you disagree with that there’s only one person here not being objective.
I think David does great work other than having the stones to ask dabo tough questions. I get it, it would be hard for me too, the way Dabo throws temper tantrums when he’s questioned hard.
So that’s what David has to do with it. I thought this was pretty cut and dry but if you need more clarification let me know.

Actually, that isn’t at all what I initially responded to, nor did I argue. I simply asked him to qualify his statement/s. That’s the problem with folks that let their emotions guide their responses. It’s a lot like your response: “ well, if you don’t agree with me then you aren’t living in reality.” I’m sure you are intelligent enough to understand the difference between fact and opinion though this response doesn’t give any confidence.
David Hood doesn’t have anything to do with anything of relevance in this thread other than being an “easy target” for the mentally weak to prey on.
Your pathetic gaslighting and snide remarks precede you, I’m afraid, but your piling on the dude that brings “fans” information and commentary on a sports website is just classless. Grow up.

Swinney says the program can't lose its identity in a bad moment. Tough spot to be in. One of the greatest opportunities to learn. He has a chance to teach these guys and learn. Story isn't over. Long story ahead. Chance to win a game this week.

On Shipley, he has what Dabo calls the shin/tibial area. Will be on crutches a few weeks and then work in after that. Could be three or four weeks. Will be back at some point.

Maybe put too much on Shipley as well.
This season is done no matter how you slice it.
Too many SEC teams in the way to make any kind of climb in the top 25 this year.

Asked what gives him confidence that off issues can be fixed, he says that talent and good people who care can get it turned around. He says they are not playing with a bunch of confidence. Fundamentals not where they need to be. He takes ownership of it all.

Dabo is 142-35 since taking over. Clemson was 104-73 in the 177 games prior to that! I believe Dabo has done enough to show he knows what he is doing!!

Swinney says you have a better opportunity to teach and lead in moments like this. He will try and do that. It won't always be perfect. Any game you win is a big deal.

Red flag. He’s already seen the film. Every offensive coach has. To say that execution is the problem is majorly concerning. I have a feeling Dabo is doing the play calling.

Not at all trying to nitpick here- more just trying to clarify, do you mean Dabo has been doing the play calling in these first 4 games or will be calling plays going forward?
I’m with you on him saying execution is the problem. Very concerning, sounds like cover for poor coaching and play calling.

I believe he has been and will continue to be involved, especially in critical moments. And yes, execution has been a problem all the way around. But if everyone, including commentators, can see no creativity and predictability, it’s baffling why Dabo won’t say it himself. The play calling in the ND game was 180 degrees different than all four games so far.

to not see that the players aren’t executing. That’s ridiculous to say otherwise. The OL is simply not able to block consistently. The QB missing throws and the WR’s aren’t performing how we are used to.
OL will have a new coach in the spring. Recruiting had to improve there.

I don’t think you can fire a coordinator after four games (and maybe not even at the end of the season), but if we are 121st in total offense, then Dabo needs to stop beating around the bush and call the problems like they are. There’s few things more reassuring in times of difficulty than a leader identifying reality. When a leader can’t identify the reality that everyone sees, people lose confidence. He’s only going to frustrate everyone. Just say it!! Play calling has been unacceptable.

Maybe so....

But it is the same play calling that got us into the top 4 year after year.
So is it really play calling or execution? So, when a team struggles with the plays, do you simplify or go bigger?
Just curious?

It’s not the same play calling that won us national championships. Go back and watch ND game last year. Tempo, motion, etc is different. More than that, every team this year has played us the same defensively (3-3-5) and we’ve run the same plays that obviously don’t move the ball. We haven’t adjusted. For goodness sakes, a recently former NFL QB says on national TV yesterday that we have no creativity and the offense is archaic. TE says after GT, “We we’re surprised by schemes and I expect every team will do that this year.” NC State did and we did the exact same thing with worse results.

Play calling is built around players. The players are very different and require different play calling and we don’t seem to be able to adjust.

Familiar with football. The ND game was a completely different set of strengths, weaknesses on both sides of the ball for both teams. Comparing that game with this years’ performance to support your “theory” is embarrassing.

He should bring in a great Co-OC to work with TE to help call plays like has before we had before. Someone with new innovated ideas.

have not been executing to standard for the past 4 weeks - then isn't it about time to sit a couple of them for at least a series or two and give a backup a chance to see if they WILL execute? What harm could it do at this point - cause us to have another 3 and out??

Achilles injury, and yes. Maybe it hurts DJ's confidence or maybe it motivates him. Maybe Taisun can be the spark the team needs. If not, then switch back. I don't see the harm, at this point.

the identical behavior in the hopes of getting a different result... That is an option and seems to be the road Clemson is traveling. However, some of us think it's a rather bad option and prefer to call it what it is: "insanity"...

Call me insane to think that a team that is struggling with the current offensive plays really needs "new" plays to learn.
I am not saying there does not need to be some changes. Just not mid-season.
My insane take. And yes, I forgot his was an Achilles injury.

On Elliott..."There is nobody I believe in more, trust, or respect than Tony Elliott." Says he hasn't forgotten football. He says Tony Elliot is special. Not concerned with what people say or think. Dont' judge someone on a few games. Been good offensively for a long time. People are quick to forget that.

On the heels of that response, a question might be…”Dabo, TE’s offense has gone from top10 to bottom 10 in less than a year. How do you explain that?”

I dislike TE's play calling as much as anyone but no way was Dabo going to throw him under the bus today. He may make plans to replace him next week but no way he tells the world until it can happen.

On his policy on not bringing in transfers, Dabo says they were above number at RB and at DT. He won't go above that number. Can't do anything about injuries. That is how they manage the roster.

With full roster, that’s their RB #. Heading into season that would have been - Shipley, Pace, Dixon, Dukes, Mafah. Rencher is 6th year covid so wouldn’t count him though he’s probably above Dukes on the depth chart/trusted list.

How many fumbled snaps of XP's and FG's has Will Swinney mishandled? Both Venables kids are good players and are probably playing the amount they need to considering their talent. Our defense isn't the problem.

I asked about OL, he said they have to keep working and practicing. Constantly evaluating and working on. They are looking for consistency in those areas. He says to fix it they keep grinding and go at it and believing and just see if they can help them get better.

Just believing things will get better without taking action, won’t fix problems. Blah blah blah. Same Old BS coach speak. Dabo is too #### stubborn. I seriously doubt he will adapt and change his ways. I’m grateful he’s been our coach.

Here are examples of some things Dabo could have said that would make a lot of people feel better
1) we have a lot of inexperience and a different mix of talent. We need to be able to adapt our playcallimg to put them in the best position to be successful. That is why we are paid the $ that we are to make adjustments and adapt to to the situation 2)we need to look at how we can grow as an offensive staff and progress with our schemes and playcallimg to adapt to where the game is now and headed vs what may have worked in the past and with a different set of skills and talent. Tony is a smart guy, he knows this and we’ve talked about it but it will take us a little time to implement some of this with the amount of new faces. 3)in this new age of the transfer portal then we need to make sure we are maximizing every scholarship that we have and we have the best talent we can get 1–85 as we know that we are going to have guys that leave and seek other opportunities. At a minimum we need to be equalizing those losses in both talent and experience
The fact he said nothing like that scares the hell out of a lot of people because unless he was throwing up smoke with his response then it’s clear he doesn’t understand the problems. If he doesn’t understand them, then they aren’t going to get fixed. Simple as that.

But, okay....I hear much of that already being said.
Just not in your exact words. Sorry....Coach Dabo is not sitting at a keyboard to get the words just perfect for the fans.
As for the scholarships...he does maximize them. Want him to entertain the transfer portal.....fine. However, he has communicated his position on the transfer portal very clearly. There is no lack of communication there....you just simply disagree with him.

polished by the keyboard or not. He also knows what the questions are going to be headed into the Sunday press conf- this isn't immediate post-game reaction. As to maximizing scholarships, how many do we have currently that are given to former walkons? You should never have more than 1 or 2 of those that are multiyear recipients at our level. Sure, occasionally a guy slips through the cracks and if a guy leaves in the summer then sure give it to a walk-on guy for the Fall only. Given our success we should be pulling good experienced transfers from mid-level and even other power 5 programs that can play real minutes vs. what we have taking up scholarships on the lower end. We don't hit on every player, we have guys that transfer for playing time after a year or 2 in the program, thus we end up with not enough legit depth and guys who can step in and help win a game when we are hit by injuries or in-season transfers.

How many walk-on's have a full scholarship now? How many walk-on at Clemson because they know a full scholarship may in their future because of the transfer portal?
I don't know these answers....but being a walk-on at Clemson with the possibility of a scholarship seems like a great deal over playing at some smaller school.

aspirations for being a great football program. It looks like we have about 6 walk-on guys eating up scholarships on the 85 total(technically 84 total since Dixon is no longer playing). That doesn't include the 6th year guys who don't count toward the 85 due to the free covid year. We've got 3 or so more there. It looks like we should only have 1 or 2 former walkons on scholarship from a talent standpoint and 1 doesn't count toward the 85. So let's say 5 spots that could have been another DT, another RB or QB, and 2-3 more OL to choose from to compete, fill-in holes and give us legitimate options.

there was help out there in that area. Taking a look at the "Top 150" rated transfer list, I agree with him. Offensive line had only one possibility, which would have been a kid who was freshman All-SEC at Tennessee. Now, knowing the problems in Tennessee's program, I would be hesitant to pull the trigger on a guy like that. And, as I said, that was the ONLY option that appeared to be equal to anyone WE have already recruited.

Every program hits a rough patch. I remember very well late 70s, late 80s and parts of 90s when CU lost games that they weren’t supposed to. Yes, I’m spoiled with the past years records. Let’s get over ourselves! I stand behind this team and the staff. Remember a rough patch pre-2016 by chance? Go Tigers!!!

Dabo gets paid +8 million a year, his family now as generational wealth. He has done great things for Clemson football.
He is not above criticism and inspection when a team severely underperformed. His comment about 3 or 4 plays away in the NCSt game is Emperor’s New Clothes level hubris.
Hope it gets fixed.

BS. My father graduated from Clemson in 84. I grew up going to games in the 90s and 2000s and remember losing to Duke very fondly in 2004 on a field goal. I now have two degrees of my own this school.
I’m not going to lower my expectations so as not to appear spoiled. Bottom line is Dabo makes 9 million a year. When you make that much money you better get it fixed and get it fixed fast. Or even people like you will get fed up with it.
If Dabo was just honest in these interviews that would go along way for a lot of folks like myself and others around here.

We may clear out some hangers-on, but it is also obvious

that there are some VERY dusty SCOKs now seeing the light of day for the first time in years. They have been in the starting blocks for a long time, waiting to pounce at our first sign of distress. Which makes me repeat:
I would rather live a single day as a TIGER, than a hundred years as a COOT!
