8 team CFP still makes the most sense to me....

The 5 Conference Champions get the automatic bid Highest ranked Group of 5 2 at-large teams (highest ranked)
as conferences implode such as the PAC 12, just add number of at large teams.
Seed them 1-8 and play same number of games. Then you have the March Madness type Cinderella team in there with the Group of 5
This seems more fair from "everyone plays the same number of games" standpoint but also doesn't make the season last too long.
Will all be a moot point when they go to 2 super conferences but would be more fun in the meantime.

There are only 4 conferences, not 5, for your scenario.
Your format is essentially the same as what we have except for fewer at-large. Your proposal wouldn't make the season end any sooner than it is going to end now.

Agree, 8 was the correct number, so of course they screwed that up

There have never been, nor will there ever be 12 teams that can win it all. Most years there are not even 4!!! That said, no auto bids, ever. If that means the conference champ games go bye-bye so be it. Top 12 teams are in, point blank period. Typical "diversity and inclusion" mindset - putting people that dont belong in places they havent earned.

Explain for me a scenario where the B1G champion and SEC champion are not in the top eight. There won't be. The only major conference to not have a team in the top eight at the end of the season was--CRIKEY!--THE ACC in 2021 where Pitt was the champion.
So, the argument about putting the conference champion in only serves to hurt the ACC and potentially Clemson. I don't understand the rationale of arguing against our inclusion in an eight- or twelve-team playoff.

B1G scenario. East has one of the big boys UM, tOSU, PSU alll let’s say are top 10 for giggles but one of them heads off to play Wisconsin, or Iowa, or Northwestern all of which conceivably could be ranked 15 or 20 or unranked in the West.
West team could win. That would be your lone exception which is feasible.
Actually it wouldn’t happen. I just remember B1G has done away with divisions now that the new kids are joining.
Oh well I got a good poop out of this.

The ACC especially after FSU moved in, and since Dabo as a HC, has had a team just as worthy as any playing for the NC, and the conference champion thing was the only way that the ACC could get at least one team in the conversation!!!
Surely you remember the way that it was before the playoff system, ESECPN was usually in control of who played for the BCS NC!!!

I think it works, top 4 conference champs get a bye. This evens it out for those teams that didn't play in a conference championship, same number of games up to a point

12 team playoff creates more TV revenue.

That is the absolutely only reason the 12 game BS got throwed into the number of games. Like has been mentioned, there has never been a time that 12 different teams were capable of winning the NC, never!!!!

Yep, and make no mistake it's all about TV money. Although having a 12 team playoff allows for having the opening weekend be on campuses, with the higher seed hosting the lower seed. That will be pretty cool, if we're being honest. Can you imagine the first time we host a playoff game? The atmosphere will be insane.

It’s unlikely we would host. We’d have to be an at-large selection ranked in the top 8…would take something like an undefeated regular season but loss in ACCCG.
