My only question about last night's play calling:

Dec 1, 2013, 7:31 PM

In all, I think Chad Morris called a really good game. Even on the Sammy int, the WR was wide open. Sammy just put too much air under it. I think overall, he had the So Car defense on its heels most of the night and when we took care of the ball, we were fine. My only question is why, with all our speed at WR, did we not try to go deep (meaning passes over 30 yards) a few times? I don't recall any passes over about 20 yards on the night, but maybe I'm mistaken.

357 yards is not a very good day.

SC wanted us to run the ball. They knew we would take the bait and want to air it out because that is what Chad wants to do. They were prepared to let Hot rod beat us because they knew we would not try that approach. Congrats to them for really out coaching us. We moved it on them well at times but other times it was a train wreck. Maybe better than last year but idk 17 pts is not much better than 14 when the other team hits the 30s.

We ran the ball down their throat, or did you watch?

They wanted us to run. It seems like it worked. We didnt want to commit to the run so who cares if it gets us what 130ish yards. SC knew we were not gonna try to "cram down there throats" that is just not us. If 130 yards is cramming it down there throats then idk what a stanford would be called.
Nobody respects hot rod and thats because he gets whats there but will never win a game.

6 turnovers and the offsides basically makes 7

Lost possessions. Get those back and you are talking 450 plus yards an at least 14 more points

they ran a lot of two deep safeties..makes the deep pass a little more difficult ...

How you going to have much more than 357 yards with six turnovers. And the offsides was pretty much number seven and a momentum changer.Give the gamecocks credit for scoring after we made that monumental gaff.

hard to go deep when your QB has to run for his life on almost every pass play

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Had more to do with it than the coverage they were running.

Dec 1, 2013, 7:58 PM

On the play where tb got drilled by their blitzing db, he faked the screen and looked like they were running the play where humphries fake blocks and goes. Never got the pass off even though he came free uncovered. Seems like no deep looks after that hit.

SC played a lot of two deep safeties.

It's the safest D to run when playing a team with a lot of WR talent. You give up the middle of the field more but you keep everything in front of you. Hence why we were able to get a lot of short pass plays across the middle on slants with SW, and Humphries but never got a deep bpmb with Bryant.
