2014: "Rebuilding" Season

Jan 5, 2014, 1:37 PM

2014 is shaping to be a total rebuild year.

Patience with Dabo and the crew.

No hot rod, sammy, tajh, tay bryant, brandon thomas, shuey, breeland, darius robinson, catman

getting hit on all 3 phases of the ball.

will get to see a lot of new faces out there.

preseason top 10?

dabo should be COY if he can churn out another 9+ win season w/ next yrs guys

10 reg season wins maybe 11***

Doubt it, rebuilding usually means there's not guys

Jan 5, 2014, 1:43 PM

ALREADY on campus to take the place of those leaving and you have to wait for recruits to become sophomores . That's not the case here, we redshirted players last year that would have started anytime during the last 20 years.

Even the few freshmen that might contribute will be on campus next week and go through the whole off season and spring ball.

Just reloading, I'd guess at least 10 wins next year.

The 2015 season will be the season we will have to replace

Jan 5, 2014, 2:20 PM

a large number of players.

After next season, we will lose

Garrett, J. Watson, D. Williams, T. Barnes, Crawford and V. Beasley (if he stays) along the DL. There is a possiblity we could also lose S. Lawson, as he went to prep last year and will be three years out of HS next year. Reader has the talent to leave early next year as well. After a RS this year, C. Watkins would also be eligible. All of these RS Soph or true juniors would not go, but each is talented enough to have a great year and leave along with the six seniors on the DL.

Steward, Anthony (if he stays), Smith, Peters, and Jenkins will all be seniors and also gone from the defense. Blanks would also be eligible to leave as a junior.

Offense.. Stoudt, G. Beasley, K. Davis, Humphries, Howard, Webster, and Cooper will be gone. As a RS Junior, C. Peake could also go.

I think we sign 26-30 guys in 2015 with 5-6 early enrolles counting back to our small class this recruiting season.

Still not sure who all is leaving, but we have real depth

Jan 5, 2014, 1:44 PM

at the positions we'll be hit regardless. New starters, yes. Inexperienced, no. Talented, definitely

Have a lot of underclassmen stepping up. If they play well we may be better in some aspects. I think the defense could be. All of our games are winnable, with the toughest FSU. GA will be interesting, USuCk should not have a great season, the other 2 teams on our schedule that I think pose a potential problem could be UNC and Louisville. But w the loss of strong and bridge water they may not be very good. Also UNC and Louisville are both home games. The schedule is very manageable and our young talent hopefully has grown to be starters.

FSU/UGA wil be real challenges. (especially since they are away games)

South Carolina will not be as good next year, and the game is at Clemson.

I predict another 2 loss regular season.

Again, with losses to 2 top 10 teams. (both road games) with a win over the mouth of the South.

That would likely have Clemson finish in the top 10-15. (again)

I'll take 2 consecutive top 10 finishes with the #1 dual threat QB coming in.

Despite the loss of talents like Watkins & Boyd.

Good the we are still in the ACC***

Call me crazy but if we don't have any major coaching changes I think we will be as good or better next year. Peake, Humphries, Williams, Green, and Hopper will be an awesome group next year. I also think we will be stronger at running back with Dye, Gallman, CJ Davis, and Brookes. We have a lot of talent at every position and we have enough experience (we rotated a lot of linemen on both sides of the ball this year) that I think we will be in great shape next year. Also think our Defensive backs will be better. Maybe I'm just overly optimistic but I really think we are reloading and not rebuilding.

2014 - The term is "Reloading" season

Jan 5, 2014, 1:52 PM

Agreed, we already have the players @ Clemson to replace what we are losing and some of the replacements will be better physically than what we are losing - though not experience wise.
Give the new guys more reps and Clemson could go further than we did this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If you're realistic about it, I think you have to consider

Jan 5, 2014, 1:53 PM

it a rebuilding year. Just can't expect that there won't be a fairly significant drop off on offense. 8-4, 9-3 maybe as the over/under? Again, just trying to give my take with orange colored glasses off.

Re: If the defense plays more consistent

Jan 5, 2014, 2:27 PM

the offense won't have to be as flashy to win 9-10 games. We also may get a break with Louisville RE Strong and Bridgewater gone.

Re: 2014: "Rebuilding" Season

Jan 5, 2014, 3:35 PM

With the current state of the ACC, Clemson would have to be pretty bad to have less than 9 wins in the regular season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is Beasley returning?***

Jan 5, 2014, 3:42 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We'll actually be as good or better in a number of areas...

Jan 5, 2014, 3:54 PM

QB: Hard to replace the best QB in school history but we're as prepared as any school could be with Stoudt, Kelly and Watson.

RB: This will actually be a strength for us next year. Dye and Gallman will be our version of Gurley and Marshall.

WR: Peake and Williams will be as good a 1,2 combination at WR as their will be in the country. Not to mention all the great young talent we have coming in.

LB: We'll lose Shuey but we should see similar production out of Ben Boulware.

CB: We lose Breeland but I think corner will be a strong spot for our defense next year. With Jayron emerging late in the season, I think there is a strong possibility that Blanks will get moved to corner. With Alexander on the other side, that's as good of starters at corner as you'll see on any team.

K: Ammon Lakip...nuff said...
