1st time in 60 years of driving

Of course I've had flats & tire failures but never like this. Sounded like a shotgun blast and tire light came on immediately. Car came equipped with run-flat tires and that got me home, 19 miles with ZERO air and actually was pretty smooth. Have no idea what I hit but never touched the rim.

Wow, that's what you call a catastrophic failure right there. Almost wonder

if somebody didn't stab it with a knife, and then it blew out at speed.

If it would have been stabbed, the tire light would have been on when the car was started up, and he wouldn't have heard the tire blow out. Most likely run over something he didn't see on the road.

No sir, quite the opposite.

That was an engineered response nothing less than perfect.

Catastrophic means something way different that what happened to our friend.

Probably may be wise to put a little more thickness of a tire around that rim too. The weight of your vehicle coming down on that thin looking tire could cause a pressure point....that will cause it to blow out.

It's a good thing you have drive flat tires on your vehicle bc those rims look to be pretty expensive to have had to replace. I too only use Michelin tires only bc I believe them to be one of the best tires on the road, and I've always gotten great service and life from Michelin tires, but I've never used the drive on a flat tires, but they looked to have served you well bc it looks like it saved your Mag Rim. Michelin, don't leave home without them;)

You could be onto something there. I know that I have gotten excellent use from Michelin tires, and I have been using them for at least the past 30 years.

My wife bought a brand new Honda CRV-EXL in 2018. The factory tires that come on the vehicle as we know are usually tires good enough to last long enough to break the engine in :), and we got I believe it was around 25k miles out of them, but, once a tire gets down to about a 16th or 3/32 of rubber depth left on them, I'll have new tires put on. I buy all my tires from Sam's club mainly bc of the Sam's service plan of free rotation and balance for the life of the tire, plus they will prorate and replace a damaged tire for the life of the tire, and you can't beat that deal. But

Anyway I had Michelin put back on her Honda, the milage just rolled 57k miles and the Michelins on her Honda still look almost new. As I've said, I've used Michelin tires for the past 30 years and I've always gotten excellent service from them, and from the looks of the Michelin tire that blew out on 2ks vehicle, the tire served him well. They are little pricey than most, but nothing is to expensive when it comes to the life and well being of your family members, and that is exactly the way I see the price of a Michelin tire, my wife is well worth paying a little more, and I would pay even more when I'm sure that it could help to keep her safe while driving!!!

“Black Betty” (2014 F-150) came with Goodyears on her feet . . . @ 80k miles, Michelins were put on her . . . Now she sits at 230,000+ miles with those same shoes on her!!!

Yes, it’s about time to change them, but you can bet they will be Michelins!!!

I'm so proud of you, J. You deserve every bit of it!

Sorry about that 900 tire blowout. My son, 17, had a fender bender yesterday. It was devastating, but everyone is ok so who cares. Great guy that he hit too. Didn't call the cops and handled it like a good man. Spoke to him last night and worked everything out.

That looks odd. You would think something large enough to put that hole in a tire would have damaged the rim right there.

I hit a pothole on I-45 in Houston. That’s what it did to my tire. Basically it felt like I hit a cinder block. 6 month old Michelins.

Wed. I arrived at a stop and heard the dreaded psttttt didn't see anything. Changed to the donut. Hours later arrived at local tire joint. They placed the tire in a tub of water and there was a pin hole in the side of the tire. Not fixable. Got home and backed into parking spot, heard the noise again. Yep back tire was going flat 5 hrs later. Don't have another spare...
