12 Team Playoff Forecasting

Based on the final CFP rankings, if the 12 team playoff was held this year, 11 of the teams would be from the SEC and Big 10. Only 1 team from the ACC would make it.

The SEC and the Big Ten are absorbing all the best teams from other conferences. All the ACC sat on its ### and so did Clemson and Florida State.

PAC-2 will not get an automatic bid anymore, most likely, so guarantees to champs
ACC SEC B1G B12 GOF (highest ranked non "Power 4")
The other 7 teams will almost certainly come from B1G and SEC. Unless Notre Dame is having a good year.

Seems silly to just have repeat games in the playoff. Seems they should do what you said, add in the next highest ranked team from each top 4 conference and then have 3 at-large. Would at least probably give the most unique matchups that wouldn’t just be replays of SEC or B1G games.
Go Tigers!

Going forward it seems that college football is getting to be like the NFL with two major divisions, American and National League conference. Or the Big Ten and the SEC. as long as there is a selection committee that decides the teams, the ACC is going to get shafted every year

That's kind of misleading, because if Washington and Texas had already switched conferences this year, they would be playing some of those other Big Ten/SEC teams, so there would be more losses for somebody. That would probably knock a couple of teams out of contention.

Obviously. Who else would make it from the ACC? I believe Oregon would make it, so that would be 9 teams and not 11.

No kidding. There is no news here because the Top 12 teams all have 2 or fewer losses and the others have 3 or more. Not a single sole has ever said that going to 12 teams guarantees teams from different conferences will be in. The reason there will be opportunity is because the Big10 and the SEC will have more teams which means more losses.

to the SEC or B1G will only add more losses for someone, so why do they need a Clemson or FSU?

Only if you count using the "new" SEC and B1G. But because of the rule for Conference champs and GOF team guarantees, that's not what would really happen.
I think this year, we'd have had this in 12-team playoff
1 B1G Champ Michigan 2 Pac12 Champ Washington 3 B12 Champ Texas 4 SEC Champ Alabama 5 ACC Champ FSU 6 At-large Georgia 7 At-large Ohio State 8 At-large Oregon 9 At-large Missouri 10 At-large Penn State 11 At-large Ole Miss 12 GOF team Liberty (perhaps SMU if committee knew it actually meant being in the playoffs)
SEC, 4 B1G, 3 PAC, 2 B12, 1 ACC, 1 GOF, 1
It's hard to say how this season turns out if Texas & Oklahoma were already in the SEC (with potential games against Alabama and UGA, someone has additional losses) and Oregon and Washington already in B1G (with potential games against OSU and MIchigan, someone has additional losses).
And someone other than Texas gets in by dint of being B12 champion. B12 champ gets in over Ole Miss...
