The Good

- PJ Hall looks as good as ever. He actual got to put in work in the offseason and it's showing.
- 3 point shooting has been strong. We are at 37% on the season. We were 2nd in the acc at 36% last year.
- chase hunter is looking good. Nearly a 2-1 assist to turnover ratio. He's been good at point.
- RJ godfrey has realy impressed. He's a beast and can bang down low

The bad

- girard is going to be a liability on defense. I knew he wasnt going to be a great defender, but i didnt think it would show against white guys from davidson.
- bas leyte probably isn't going to be a factor. Looks like we will go with a godfrey - schef front court when hall is out which has me worried with rebounding. Bas leyte is skinny and just kinda looks goofy. He definitely seems like a downgrade from middlebrookes at the back up center role.
- The SF position has been quiet. Chauncey has'nt done much, and jack clark is just jow able to fet into the swing if things

We are 3 and 0, and have 2 big games coming up. Boise State was an NCAA tourney team last year and then we have bama. Both will be tests.

disagree about leyte. he will not score much but will do fine for a couple minutes at a time when big guys need a blow.

I hope im wrong. In the limited playing time he has gotten it just didnt seem like he had it. Middlebrookes could at least get rebounds and do simple post moves. Bas probably has more touch around the basket, but he doesnt look near as strong or as good of a rebounder as middlebrookes.

I think small forward will be a strength before the season is over.

As you know, Jack wasn’t healthy until about a week before the Winthrop game, so he is still learning our system. That has limited him. Once he gets more acclimated, he will be a big weapon for us.

Chauncey hasn’t done much yet this season, but he’s ready to have some bigger performances.

I agree with this. I have been really high on jack clark, and chauncey was a standout in preseason workouts.

Wiggins also hasn't played very much. Brownell has been very quick to take him out and rarely puts him back in.

I think he had 3 minutes on Sunday, which -- IMO -- is criminal given the length and athleticism he would've provided against a lineup that provided zero of that.

Thankfully it worked out!

I get tired of seeing Hall get hacked and pounded and yet anytime he even touches someone they want to call a foul. A little consistency would be nice. He was rag dolled a couplke of times and no call

This happened last year too and it was very frustrating

74tiger, you are correct. It is like the officials watch Hall and Godfrey like a hawk and call the slightest touch. I made a joke to a friend last week that it seems the officials call RJ for a foul the second he opens the dressing room door, just because he is in the building. I know RJ is a banger and can mix it up inside, but ACC officials allow this on one end of the court but not on the other. This is not something new and goes back decades with ACC refs. It is so obvious that officials pick out certain teams and players and watch them closer than others. We have 3 players who fall into this category. Hunter the Elder, P.J. and R.J. These 3 guys can get mugged, slapped, kicked and pushed around with no fouls called, then just let them touch an opposing player and they get called.

Why are you such a dishonest prig?

Name the 10 fastest players on our football team. Now, how many are white? How about our track team?

If your answer is, "I'm not gonna play your hypothetical game, because then I would be a racist, too", my answer would be "No, you just insist on dishonestly pretending genetics are irrelevant in every way. I guess you're just not mathematically capable of reading a stopwatch."

Actual racism in everyday life is based on disrespect and has the intention of questioning someone's inherent worth based on their race. This isn't what the OP is demonstrating. He used a genetic observation that everyone clearly understood. Simple genetic comparisons may or may not be racist. Is a greyhound faster than a poodle? If you think so, by your definition you're a racist. Or a breedist, which in a dog world is the same thing.

I don't reject that racism exists or that it shouldn't be called out. I reject your overly sensitized definition of it.

Someone is over sensitized here, and it’s not me.

I was just curious and asked a question.

How can we rate the defensive ability of one of our players, solely based on the skin color of the opponent?

Davidson has the reputation for lots of moving screens. Their motion is difficult to defend if the refs don't call the moving screens.

Fair enough.

That’s actually a more reasonable analysis.

Since you know that is something they regularly do…I would think our coaches would be aware of it as well.
Do you think our coaches had a talk with the referees prior to the game, asking them to keep an eye on that? And they still wouldn’t call it?

When I was watching the exhibition game this year I noted that Bas looked goofy out there, a bit uncoordinated, glad I'm not the only one who thought that. He'll be fine for guys to get a breather, but I don't expect much beyond that, hopefully I'm wrong.

As someone else pointed out on here previously, I think the Syracuse zone really shielded Girard on the defensive end. Maybe his defense will progress, but yeah looking like a weak point. Just keep making that 3 ball...

I will say that coming from the days of Andre Young, Jordan Roper, Nick Honor, etc., it's wild that a 6'2 guard now looks like the short guy out there and is a defensive liability, how far the sport has come in a short time!

Rebounding is a huge issue.

Brownell offense of shooting 3s instead of inside game balance along with no inside shot blocker/rebounder.
After playing 3 games against small schools ranked 80+ = Clemson was badly outrebounded (by 13) against UAB and then again out rebounded by Davidson.
If we can’t hold our own on the boards against small teams, what happens when we play power 5 big boy basketball?

That tends to happen when you jack up a dozen threes and make 1, with 4 guys out on the 3pt line.

When you are shooting 37% as a team, shooting 3's are a good thing.

We wouldnt have won to either UAB or davidson without the 3 ball. Many uneducated "fans" on this site wants us to completely stop shooting 3's if we miss a few in a row. That's not how it works.

You may want to look at UABs size before calling them a small team to avoid looking like an id!ot.

They start 2 6'9 guys that are both over 230 pounds and their guards are between 6'2 and 6'4

Davidson isnt even a small team. Their 2 starting big men are 6'11 and 6'10. Their guards are 6'3 - 6'5. Their leading scorer is 6'7

But sure, lie to spin your BS narrative.

PLUS DAVIDSON LOADED THE LANE FORCING US TO SHOOT THE 3. GREAT STRATEGY UNTIL WE STARTED MAKING THEM. IT IS LIKE FOOTBALL WHEN YOU CANT RUN THE BALL AND THE IDIOTS SAY WELL OUR OLINE CANT BLOCK. IDIOTS JUST LOOK AT IT IN THEIR OWN PATHETIC LITTLE WORLD.

PJ looks good offensively. He has a lot to work on defensively. hose BS fouls you talk about are usually because he's out of position and/or he gets frustrated and does something stupid.

3-point shooting has been inconsistent. Thank goodness for a couple hot streaks because it was brick city until the second half of the Davidson game.

Chase does look good. Love the penetration. Only negative I have is he sometimes goes inside without a plan and turns the ball over.

Godfrey is solid.

Wiggins doesn't get enough playing time in my opinion but that is probably more a reflection of CBB trying to find that best 5. I'd imagine his play time picks up as the season progresses.

Girard is on the floor for his 3 point ability and that is all. The team is at an immediate disadvantage defensively anytime he or Hemenway is on the floor.

Leyte is slow. If he gets more than 5 minutes a game we won't win often.

A lot of good things going on with this team. 10 deep with solid guys that will contribute in some way. I do like the fact they are running a little more than usual. They get consistent with the 3 and this team will be tough for anyone. Still need to work on offensive rebounding which has been a weakness for a long time.

These takes are spot on.

Clemson's rebounding is definitely an issue, and it's most glaring on the offensive glass. PJ Hall is a great player but he is a horrible rebounder on both ends of the floor. It's maddening to watch someone as big and strong as he is be so bad at rebounding, but he is.

I don't think it's a "want to" issue with him at all, he just doesn't have very good rebounding instincts for whatever reason.

I have been beating the "play Wiggins more" drum already, and Brownell needs to get him in there more. He can be a difference maker, Brownell just needs to let him play through the bad spells.

Brownell has to stop putting Girard and Hemenway on the floor at the same time. He hasn't done it much, but one second is too much. To pair them on the floor is to invite defensive ruin.

All that said, I do really like this team. I really do. I think they can go far this year, and I hope they will. I just hope the 3-pt defense and rebounding issues are addressed as the season progresses.
