Were there lunatic fans who defended him like the Brad cultists defend Brad?

That wasn’t the question. Plenty were calling for it, but there were idiots thinking then that he just “needed more time” and “who else are we going to get.” “Who do we think we are?” “The 80s are long gone.”

Good thing the admin actually cares about football.

I’m not sure they do. It’s pure mythology that they saw Dabo for what he would be. They screwed up bad with Tommy’s extension and when Dabo won just enough to justify giving him a shot they seized onto the chance to eat up some buyout years with a coupon coach. Thankfully for us he made the ACC championship the next year and got a decent (but not prohibitive) pay bump. Without that ACC championship appearance and a strong recruiting class he would never have survived 2010. What’s ridiculous is that everyone can see the impact our football success has had and yet don’t realize the money being left on the table by neglecting basketball. It’s the only other real revenue sport. But it’s basically treated as throw in to upper football boosters (yes I know the new premium seats have major seat fees). But at major schools that emphasize both it is a whole separate enchilada. And given that our current top boosters aren’t purchasing even a fraction of the season ticket inventory allotted to them - there is huge opportunity in this area.

No. The cult of brad is WAY more delusional than the Keep Tommy crowd of

And Tommy had more to show for his tenure than brad does.

These folks that are off the deep end with brad love are beyond comprehension.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Not a cultist, but that was officiating robbery*****

Yes. Same excuses as now for BRAD.

1. WE can't do better.
2. He is a good Christian.
3. He runs a good program.
4. We will be better next year.
5.We can't win em all.
6. We should only win an ACC once every 6 years. It's hard to win.
7. We can't compete for a natty. Crazy talk thinking we should expect to be in top 10 consistently.
8. We can't recruit against the top teams.
9. We go to bowl games every year. What more do you want.
10. We may get someone worse.

11. You are a coot if you want a change in coaching.

Those were the main excuses over and over and twice on Saturday.

I, for one, was absolutely shocked at the defense he continued to receive from some. But, in the end, he did bring Dabo to Clemson. So there is that.

Bowden was defensible until the last 2 seasons. He never had a losing season. Was never lower than .500 in ACC. And convinced AD to invest in facilities. He just couldn't get over the hump and got embarrassed by Wake and Duke too many times.

BrownL has been to 3 tournaments OVER 14 SEASONS in an era of expanded tournament. Ellis, Barnes and Purnell accomplished that in a harder conference. And Barnes and Purnell did it coaching half as long as BrownL

BrownL has accomplished ZERO and not a single memorable moment other than winning in Chapel Hill. Frankly, I'd take a loss in CH every year for the Barnes and Purnell eras of scrappy fun and frequent tourney bids.

Yep, Bowden improved on the 90s and got facility improvements going.

and he was 7-2 vs the coots. But after awhile, the doubters were like it's been with Dabo the last 3 years - what have you done for me lately?

And a lot of the ones who kept wanting him replaced, wanted Leach or Kiffin, coaches with issues who hadn't won anything significant either.

Brownell is the first Clemson coach I've ever spoken negatively about...

certainly after Dabo had started beating the LSU's, Oklahomas, etc. that a guy who called himself Stuart, not only called in on WCCP asking for the reinstatement of Bowden, but was circulating a petition to get 22,000 signatures to reinstate Bowden. I kid you not.
