Question about regional and Omaha

May 29, 2016, 12:59 AM

I must admit I've never followed much college baseball. I have been all football and MLB. I'm taking a break from MLB until the Braves decide that alienating their fan base was stupid.

Anyway, I don't understand the difference between regional and super regionals. I see that we will be hosting now. Man, things have changed over the last 10 days. Do we have to win our regional to make it to Omaha? I would think not, but could be wrong. Here is the biggest question. Once we arrive in Omaha, what do we have to do to win the whole thing? It is double elimination I believe. What if we get extremely hot and win out? How many games would we have to win/play to won the CWS? Thanks in advance.

I'll answer to my best of abilities!

First, YES we have to win our regional to go to Omaha. The regional is the first tournament, 4 team bracket, double elimination.
After winning the Regional you advance to the Super Regional. The SR is a two team best of 3 series. If the Tigers get a top 8 national seed then that would mean we would be guaranteed to host the Super Regional, IF they win the Regional first.

Eight team move on to Omaha. Split into two 4 team pools. Double elimination for each pool. The winners of each pool would then play a best of 3 series for the National Championship.

There are 16 host sites or regions with 4 teams per site. Each reason is pretty much a double elimination tournament. The winner of each region advances (16 teams) to the Super Regionals, which is a best of 3 series between two teams. The winners of the Super Regionals (8 teams) advance to Omaha which is double elimination except for the championship which is best 2 of 3.

Awesome explanations. Makes perfect sense. I think we have the team to do it if we can score some runs and don't go into an offenaive droughts.

Pitching, fielding (few if any errors), and timely hits all have be supported by solid coaching as well. It would be great to get to Omaha.

Go Tigers!
