question about mackenzie

Aug 10, 2013, 9:11 PM

Saw where he was a little banged up. How long is he out of practice? Hhas he practiced much and how was he doing? Yall signed some good recruits but he was the one I thought may come in and make a big impact right away.

I think it was told that he would be back by mid week of this coming week. And I think Tyshon Dye may have a little impact as well IMO.

He has a tweaked groin

Apparently they expect him back by mid next week. Sammy said he has stuck with him pretty well in practice. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up starting, honestly.

Tyshon Dye has been pretty dominant at practice. 220 pounds, very physical runner. Jordan Leggett is now 6'6", 245 pounds, and will definitely get some serious playing time. Ben Boulware, Jayron Kearse and Korrin Wiggins are three others that could make a big impact this season.

I bet VT wishes they had Leggett...

He'd make a great QB there...

Looked into those guys some. All look to be potential impact players. I pointed out mackenzie more because he looks to have lockdown ability. A true lockdown cb is a defensive coordinstors dream as far as scheming goes. You can do so many different things when the other teams best wr or, when playing zone, a huge section of the field is pretty much off limits for throwing the ball. Yall have had some good defensive backs lately but not that one guy who truly shuts down a portion of the field. Thats why alexander scares me. If he fulfills his potential he makes everyone on the defense better.

Yeah, I was bummed that he didn't get much action Saturday

I wanted to see what he could do. I think of all of the freshman he'll have the biggest impact.

We desperately need Alexander to lock down the other DB spot

Aug 11, 2013, 9:28 PM

Breeland's not great but he's solid at one corner spot. Right now Peters is probably the other starter. He's a decent player, but way too inconsistent. I think the fact that D. Robinson weighed in the 170's at the start of camp shows a lack of commitment on his part. He needed to get bigger and stronger during the off-season. Jenkins is a lock for the 3rd corner spot covering the slot. He's too short to play outside even though technically I feel he's our best corner.

Agree about Jenkins

Aug 11, 2013, 9:52 PM

He's the best cover guy we've got that isn't a freshman but he's too small to match up with an outside receiver. Alexander is obviously the ideal guy to cover the opposing #1 with his skill set and size. I think Baker will be the other one after a year of lifting and putting on weight but that doesn't help us this year

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah Baker is probabaly going to RS

Aug 11, 2013, 10:30 PM

He's just too small right now. Same with Marcus Edmond. He got the raw end of the deal having to guard Sammy in the scrimmage but he's got some serious speed. If I'm right then on tha tlong run and catch that G-Hop had it was Edmond that chased him down, not an easy feat though Edmond was a HS track star.

He wouldn't be too short for our starting receivers. We have to have the shortest starting group in the nation.
