purple out shirts

Oct 30, 2013, 2:03 AM

Can someone tell me the deal with the purple out shirts with purple heart on it? Something is being passed on facebook about it being disrespectful.

It's people posting stuff with misinformation

Case in point this obvious Coot fan from Columbia posting on a Stolen Valor facebook page.

She posted this:
Clemson University is selling shirts with a purple heart saying the fans have purple hearts for the team. There is a page that is trying to get supporters to get them to stop selling the shirts. It is called Keep The Purple Heart From Being Disrespected. The university had their hearts in the right place for the wounded warrior game but the shirt is disrespectful to those who really have gotten purple hearts.

As is generally the case with Capons....

it is a combination of misinformation and pure unadulterated ignorance.

The "Purple Out" and the commemorative t-shirts which is a student-drivin initiative is intended to represent the great significance the color purple has to the United States Military and Clemson University. It is symbolic of the courage and sacrifice possessed by those recipients of the Purple Heart award. Holding a "Purple Out" for Clemson's Military Appreciation Day football game will allow the Clemson community to show its support of the University's military tradition and the United States Armed Forces.

I think it's interesting that the original poster on that fb

Also read somewhere but can't find the link that the military was consulted on the idea and the design before any of it went forward.

Coming from Texas to the game, will it be too cold for a T-shirt ?

Bring a jacket and/or long sleeve shirt. We've had some crazy weather this year. It got to 78 degrees today and rained for almost 2 months straight this summer, so anything could happen come Novemember.

Short sleeve t-shirts for a game in late November.

I'll be wearing my purple proudly, but just not that shirt.

Uh no?

What in the hell made you think that? I simply asked why the shirts were short sleeved since the game will most likely be pretty chilly. I bought a shirt (don't know why people think they are free) so that my money may go toward the foundation, however I will not be wearing it during the game because I would much rather be warm in my purple clemson sweatshirt. No bitching here sir.

Buy a size larger and wear it over your sweatshirt.

A Clemson grad, I have a Purple Heart from Vietnam War.

At first, I was offended and thought that a purple shirt game belittled blood shed on a distant battlefield. The more I thought about it, I came to like the idea - it means no disrespect - it honors those who received a Purple Heart. I will be wearing a warm Clemson purple sweat.
