I truly appreciate the tribute to your dad today and for allowing all of us to share in his memory thru our own of him. All a part of our history, our Clemson history together.
That was really cool folks. Thank you striperfan® and to all of you that make this forum worth while.

I would have given a TU to each who gave a heartfelt response, but Tnet takes you back to the beginning with each TU. With a post this popular, it would take all night!

It sure is. It’s also a reminder that you never know

what someone is going through. Spoke to Tug today and understand why he has not been back.
People can be hateful and T’net is no exception. You never know how your words may affect someone. Good thing to keep in mind for everyone.

Clemson is a place where people come, and stay

that makes it very unusual, and special. While people like my dad, coaches, players are well known, others were and are equally special. Tim Bourret is from Massachusetts and a Notre Dame grad, but Clemson is where he claimed his home. Why is he not in the Hall of Fame? We just lost Fred Hoover, some knew him, or of him, but he was as Clemson as it gets. Bob Bradley, George Bennett, Herman McGee, Bob Mahoney, Jud Hair, Gene Willimon. Some like a Bill D'Andrea or Bill McClellan move on, but their hearts are always "where the Blue Ridge dawns it's greatness."
Clemson takes people in and makes them family. Dad answered a blind ad in a trade magazine and sent Frank Howard some tapes. All basketball, lol. He'd never lived outside of Ohio except when he was in the Army. Had a chance to fulfil a lifelong dream and do major league baseball, and said no, to stay. When Dabo retires, where do you think he'll stay? Same as Danny. BV kept his house here for a reason.
I don't get up there much anymore, weekends are busy being a pastor. But I'm there in spirit. Always will be.

My Jim Phillips Story

Posts like that also reminds me that not all games were on TV, not even in 2003. We used to look at the schedule trying to predict what road games wouldn’t be on TV and plan the day around it. Nothing like sitting in the yard around the grill listening to the radio.
First road game I remember listening to after JP passed away was 2003 Georgia Tech. My ex Father-in-law had been working 7days a week at General Tire for like 2 months. I went to his house that morning and spent the whole day cutting his grass and weed eating. Trust me this property wasn’t an easy job. He’s a stern man and not the kind you want to mess with (who volunteers to jump out of planes in Vietnam)? Anyhow he comes home and I’m sitting outside drinking beer dirty as hell and the game is coming on the radio. I saw the man’s eyes slightly water looking around the yard. We sat out there and left empty beer cans under our chairs listening to the game. I can’t remember why the game wasn’t televised and to this day I’m glad it wasn’t. GT was supposed to kill us that night but we won 39-3. And we all remember how that season ended.
